It's amazing to have the book in my hand now, after several years of working on it with Kasper and Per Ola. In a nutshell, it's a new textbook for introductory-level HCI courses: ✅ 10 parts, covering the whole HCI process ✅ Over 200 principles and 100 examples ✅ 864 pages

In HCI, everyone knows what a user interface is. It's the... umm... the thing between the user and the computer? I and @khornbaek grappled with this question for over 7 years and finally have a paper out: https://t.co/jUZukgEtJK

Kasper @khornbaek talked about the theory crisis in HCI*. My view: AI is the cause. “LLM accessories” won't do it, HCI needs to renew its theories, methods & models to center on human-AI interaction. Prove that they work better than trial and error. *

New paper out in @ijhcs_journal! @askemot, @khornbaek, and I found that demand characteristics influence experimental outcomes in HCI. We find that when participants guess the experimenter's hypothesis, they tend to behave and respond in ways that match those guesses.

Opening keynote at at #muc2024 by Kasper Hornbæk arguing that we lack theoretical foundations: theory crisis in HCI. Sometime I wonder if theory advances HCI or it giving us researchers a way to feel more as real scientists? a discussion to be continued… @khornbaek @mimuc
