IMHO we should just be realistic about pensions in the face of this unprecedented crisis. 1. Cease all AE and DC contributions for 3/6 months. 2. Make it clear they start again after that. 3 Cease all DB accrual and contributions (regular & deficit) for 3/6 months. Let's get real.

Or if you have to - don't be driven by market prices. Stand back. Don't take immediate actions on the basis of today's prices. Use a bit of judgement. As actuaries - that is what we should be paid for!!.

So the real issue is what can you take from current market prices - for equities, bonds or commodities? I suggest - not very much. Nobody can work through the consequences of the virus on the world, or financial markets. Do something pragmatic. Don't have an actuarial valuation!.

Excellent news - CDC is coming!!.@PM4EastRen has tabled a '10 minute rule motion' on CDC in the House of Commons for 17 Oct. It calls for 'a bill to enable the establishment of CDC pension schemes'.So CDC can become a reality to improve pension outcomes for millions.
