In view of the dumpster fire here… I’m at the other place too.

Remember: every guilty plea, every decision not to fight a case by any Hong Kong pro-democracy campaigner is NOT a real admission of guilt, but more a “what’s the point, let’s get it over with” thing.
Albert Ho, has changed his plea from not-guilty to guilty in court today in the case where he and 2 other standing committee members of the HK Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China are charged with "inciting subversion to state power".

They are determined to keep finding more “crimes” allegedly committed by Joshua Wong to have him locked up forever.
Hong Kong activist Joshua Wong’s second national security case will be transferred to the High Court, where he may face life imprisonment if convicted. #hongkong #joshuawong.

Very grateful to @wang_maya and @hrw for highlighting this - China’s vicious crackdown on Macao often gets forgotten when the world’s focus is on neighbouring Hong Kong. People like Au in Macao need international support too.

I am grateful to @SenatorWong for this. Not all transnational repression are this brazen - they can be quite subtle or even take on airs of due process. I hope the Australian Government will act against all forms of transnational repression.

Great to see @badiucao, @ChengLeifreedom, @KMooreGilbert and many other friends at Badi’s exhibition at Goldstone Gallery in Melbourne last night!

Just as well the protest was allowed. If it was banned, people would think this is only about Palestine, for which there is (rightly) much sympathy in the community. Allowing it to proceed enables people to see certain sections of protesters for who they really are.
Front row: Julian Assange, @MaryKostakidis, @Craig_Foster, @MehreenFaruqi. Back row: a giant portrait of Ayatollah Khamenei - the dictator who jails women, executes gays, funds terror, and calls for Israel’s destruction. This wasn’t a march for justice. It was a mask drop.

Opinion polls have consistently shown that the “majority” of Australians view this issue with more nuance than is suggested by Mr Mashni (namely people tend to blame both Israel and Hamas, don’t like the more strident elements of pro-Palestine messages and appalled by the rise of.
It’s clear what the majority of Australian want! .An end to complicity, an end to genocide, an end to apartheid and occupation!. @AlboMP the people are telling you that you have a mandate to be great! . It’s time to sanction and divest from this rouge, genocidal state!.

As a rank and file Labor member I am extremely dismayed to read that at the @VictorianLabor Conference:. 1. @dyrenfurth’s amendments to a motion calling for Palestinian Statehood recognition to include a condemnation of Hamas and to strongly criticise anti-Semitism was defeated

It is important that these freedoms be upheld even if you don’t like the cause or the antics of its supporters. What can be done to those that you don’t like now can be done to you in the future if those you don’t like come to power one day.
#BREAKING 🚨 The NSW Supreme Court has ruled in favour of a pro-Palestine march across the Sydney Harbour Bridge tomorrow. Police had sought a prohibition order, arguing there was a public safety risk with large crowd numbers expected

Australian law enforcement have not told me or @tedhuichifung to self-censor. Far from it. They have always emphasised our rights to free expression. That’s why I told the Guardian that my treatment in Australia has been very different to that which Carmen Lau faced in the UK.

Kudos to @carmenkamanlau for speaking out on this, and happy to be quoted by the Guardian on the very different treatment I received from Australian law enforcement. They always took potential threats against me seriously, and if I tell them what I am up to it would not be.
Whose safety is really being protected?.Spoke to @guardian abt how UK police told me to stay low profile. Not the officers to blame, UK govt should've provided a more comprehensive TNR training, as urged by @HumanRightsCtte & in my written evidence.

What’s “politically motivated” and what’s not? . Jimmy Lai’s first conviction was for “fraud”. Members of the Spark Alliance Resistance Support fund , which helped 2019 protesters, were arrested, charged or wanted for “money laundering”. Where does one draw the line?.
#NEW UK Government assures #HongKong BN(O) holders that the government “will never allow” politically motivated extraditions. In a letter to @HumanRightsCtte Chair @DavidAltonHL, @DanJarvisMBE made the commitment.

Hong Kong people have often been told that we should learn to be obedient like Macau, and that if we did that, Beijing would not be so harsh on us. What actually happens in “obedient” Macau:.
Macau democrat arrested for colluding with foreign forces, police say . A leading Macau democrat, Au Kam San, has been arrested for collusion with foreign forces to endanger national security, according to a police statement.

These exit bans have real impacts on commerce. Bankers are more reluctant to do first hand due diligence in China (bad for investors). Liquidators are less willing to take operational control of distressed assets in China (bad for creditors). You name it.
China is increasing its use of “exit bans”, ensnaring Chinese nationals and foreigners alike and deepening concerns about business travel to the country. Data from China’s supreme people’s court, shows the.

This is scary shit.
🚨Concerning: CCP agents are spreading AI deepfake videos targeting me and others. The first surfaced on March 7—crude and unconvincing. The latest is more refined and sophisticated. This is state-backed disinformation meant to defame, confuse, and intimidate. Stay vigilant.

And in all seriousness maybe the Australian approach to Archer, Wood and Atkinson (if all fit) in the upcoming Ashes series should be to try and bat slow and long against them in the first Test or two, and reap the rewards later in the series. #ENGvIND #TheAshes.
I’m being playful in this clip, but the broader point is one I’ll keep banging on about in situations like this: marginal gains in a tight series… so why not keep England out there for the full hour and make them hurt even more ahead of Thursday? India earned that. #ENGvIND.
