When we recognize we’re not leading the churches WE built, using the gifts WE create, standing on platforms WE curate our posture in ministry shifts to surrender & obedience and God’s favor & anointing can flow.

I just heard that Israel has cut off the water supply into Gaza, which is horrifying and could create a deeper humanitarian crisis. It is also a reminder of the imbalance of power in this ongoing conflict. And here is an important reminder to any Christian who might be inclined

The only people who decry justice are the ones who benefit from injustice. The only people who decry equality are the ones who benefit from inequality. The only people who decry liberation are the ones who benefit from oppression.

You can’t desire religious freedom when the only religion you think deserves freedom is white Christianity.

It is my Christianity which informs my refusal to impose my Christianity.

She was more valuable than the second amendment. More precious than all the guns in the entire world.

It’s breathtaking to think about the amount of rich theology we could be learning if we didn’t have to spend so much time hashing out endless specific stipulations about how “real” men or women are supposed to talk, act, sing, stand, sit, live. There’s so much more than this.

So glad to hear from my dear friend @scotmcknight. He called for a standing ovation for the courageous women and men who have spoken the truth to churches and said, “We believe you.” #restore2022

This is what Jesus like leadership looks like, fam. Praying for you and the victim now, Danielle. I know there is unspeakable loss- relationally, spiritually, practically, emotionally. Standing with you and this brave woman.

I’m inclined to believe that God is secure and non-anxious, not thrown off by our disorientation, doubts, despair…infinitely patient, even as we wander. I think there is a parable about this. It is we who want the dark nights to be less messy and disruptive.

I love that there is a whole dang story in the Bible about a physical worship space being literally torn open and at least partly destructed to make space for the inclusion of a disabled person and Jesus was like "this is the right thing" and people still think it's a debate.

When we pray in silence we consent to being loved by a God who chooses to be present regardless of our productivity or performance. In the silence you learn to hear "Beloved."

May we Christians lament the January 6th insurrection. May we be heard confessing how Jesus’ name was taken in vain that day for the sake of political extremism and violence. May we repent from all the ways we’ve allowed nationalism to be associated with Christianity.
