I understand my experience will not be your experience. Lots of ways to get above a 20 though.
The NFT stamp is carrying me.
me: "yes mom, the
@ethereum
foundation just committed $500k to our next grants round."
mom: "you should be proud of yourself, that sounds important."
me: "🥲 I'm just so proud of the
@gitcoin
team and community"

I'm getting DMs from folks with scores above a 20, worried they don't qualify for the zkSync stamp.
DON'T WORRY! Getting above a 20 is enough and all that matters for most communities!
No single stamp is the deciding criteria.
Some folks are still new to how Gitcoin Grants works, and how the QF mechanism might scale to fund projects globally. This blog post takes a deeper dive in to Gitcoin Grants 👇
I’ve had a bunch of DMs from folks asking why they don’t qualify for the zkSync stamp. We will provide an update tomorrow on the stamp, but many of these people are farming with more than five wallets.
How many is too many? When does farming turn into Sybil?
At
#ethcc
so many people quietly talking about family planning, kids and the difficulty of crypto culture around being a parent.
We need to talk about this more. It’s hard to balance parental responsibilities and the conference circuit.
Some folks have been asking me "How could you allow the Shell deal to go through?" I want to offer a bit of context here.
This was a deal that was put "on my desk" to merely review and sign as Shell needed a legal counterparty (the job I often play). The Public Goods Funding…
Holy smokes ya`ll - Gitcoin has broke $35M in funding distributed to the community after GR11.
👏 Huge kudos to

This is a really great question! I also appreciate the way you phrased this. 🙏
Lots of small Txs often look like Sybil behavior. In this case, our model works very differently than others. We look for patterns in usage (small Txs, wash trading, LP’ing low value assets, NFT…

Some personal news - I am going to be leading
@gitcoinpassport
for a little while.
Already an incredible team, I’m glad they will have me 😅
Reply or DM me if you got feedback. And first order of business is stabilizing the protocol - It’s been a wild three days.
🤔Really pretty surprised to see this take...
A public good to me is not a public bad for someone else and visa versa.
Now that gitcoin is a permissionless protocol (Allo), it is possible to fork it🥳... it's possible to fund raise and run your own round too🙌. Gitcoin is not a…
Sad to see Gitcoin focus on such a distorted US-centric view of the world.
"reflect the diversity of the community they serve" sounds as arbitrary as rules can go
Instead of this, how about building teams and projects where all are welcome based on their merit and their skill?
Some

metrics 💪
▶️131k passports refreshed in the last 90 days
▶️ We've added/refreshed ~60k during the beta alone
🌳The community of funders is quite amazing🫡
*we do not store any personal info in Passport*
1/ The community is clearly fired up about sensible crypto policy. Here’s how to continue the support 👇
1️⃣: Mint a Stand With Crypto commemorative NFT
2️⃣: Add a shield emoji next to your Twitter display name 🛡️

1/ Sybil attacks are the Achilles' heel of decentralized networks. But what if there's a way to make it costly for attackers to create fake identities?💰
💡 The Cost of Forgery concept empowers legitimate users and weaponizes cost for attackers.
👉
Those who say "grant funding by whales is a bad mechanism, we need [better thing X]" are missing the point.
Gitcoin grants is a *trial run* for quadratic funding. The long-run goal is to have tx fees from L2/apps (eg. rollup MEV auctions) feeding into the matching pool directly.
I really appreciate
@VitalikButerin
’s talk today. So many web2 natives have asked me if Ethereum is just for DeFi - I always say no, and try to paint a bigger picture. So much opportunity, so much funding needed.

@Gitcoin

Know any Product UX/UI designers that want to lead a design team of our heavily used Allo protocol?🤝🥳
DM me your referrals! 🙏
It's always incredible to have a founder come back to the project they borne in their basement with much sweat, love and tears.
Many of us at the DAO are excited to have Owocki involved in all the areas we have been making progress. I see this step as a net positive for the…
ANNOUNCEMENT: i am excite to announce my planned return to
@gitcoin
!
IMO
1. The DAO has made solid strides in decentralizing the tech, expanding the use cases, and exploring new growth areas.
2. At the same time - I also think much of the community's criticism of
@gitcoin
is…
DAO budgets are hard. There is a trend to move budgeting to less frequent.
This reminds me of software release schedule. releasing less often because its hard means you have problems in other places in the stack.
DAOs should have a "continual release" cycle for budgets
Did you know
@uniswapgrants
is running a matching pool during GR11‽
@gitcoin
Grants Round 11 will be a lot of fun!
The party starts September 8th - Join us.
I want to build organizational cultures where you can’t tell who the bosses are.
Decentralized, high authority, high autonomy.
DAOs can do this, few are doing it well.
Having a plan doesn't mean you're not decentralized.
Your DAO should have a strategy - strategy is not your enemy...
So many excuses on why folks can't articulate their strategy.
@milesjennings
Shots fired!
Folks in the SEC I am chatting with are all just hoping Gary is out soon so they can go on rebuilding campaigns across the industry.
It's wild how a single person (and those complicit) can cause so much damage to a government agency.
yeah sex is great, but how many people have you helped make a career change?
let me know if i can help you. 😈
@gitcoin
is hiring, and we know some killer web3 folks if we’re not a fit.
I want to really drive this point home. Allo is a permissionless protocol, and Grants stack is one of multiple dApps to interact with it.
If you don't like the round, don't participate. If you don't like the eligibility criteria, move on.
Create your own round, with the…
This is really good on a couple of levels:
1 - The truth we each hold is based purely on perspective
2 - My truth does not invalidate your truth
3 - It's only through cooperation we can see the whole truth.
In past
@gitcoin
Grants rounds, we heard it was hard to find your own grant, collection, and even Hackathon bounty submission... We got you covered!
Love this new design 🔥
I am hearing that more stamps to choose from in
@gitcoinpassport
would be helpful...
Seems folks are having a hard time hitting the 21 point threshold for the Alpha Round. Is that accurate?
2024 is wild for grants programs.
It feels like teams/communities are hitting their stride and have started to recognize the growth potential grants programs bring.
New gen grants program come with impact… not just spray and pray.
I am so stoked to have this live.
Legitimate, durable and always on funding for public goods projects. This is just the beginning!!
More to come at EthCC.
🟢 Introducing: Public Goods Network— a community-led L2 ecosystem for public goods maxis.
It's time to explore durable mechanisms to generate abundant and legitimate funding for public goods.

Starting to see some improvements. 💪💪
We have one more fix in the works! 🙌 This next fix will help with the Ceramic errors folks are getting with a new wallet.
Lots of folks have been working hard to bring about these changes. Excited for the opportunity it creates and also the focus for Gitcoin. Check it out 👇
✨Gitcoin is taking an innovative leap towards evolving into Gitcoin 2.0, fueled by three key transformative pillars ✨

Thinking of building a product that generates airdrop lists for folks interested in including "good actors" in their project. Good idea?
Lists for those who support zk tech, or are active in NFT communities, or who are climate regens, etc.

Send me a DM if you have more product feedback!🤙
most successful VCs have figured out the team matters the most. the idea, the market, the market opp all take some luck.
DAOs are still figuring this out - your contributors matter the most.
Hey
@gitcoin
family - Did you know Grants Round 10 is tentatively scheduled to start in a week‽
GR10 will likely kick off on June 16th.
PLEASE UPDATE YOUR GRANTS! Idle Grants are hidden by default.

Biggest Grants Round ever.
The community funded over 300 new grants this round!😳

DAOs should not be web2 organization structures that pay people in tokens.

I shared some thoughts on our journey to a protocol organization with a vibrant DAO. Would love your thoughts and feedback.
Centralizing systems often brings efficiencies
Decentralizing systems often brings resiliency
DAOs need to be great at both types of approaches and understand when to centralize, and where to decentralize.
Software Dev = Centralized
Impact / Community = Decentralized
We’ve been doing research on some of the highest profile token launches. 💸

Communities decide how to handle, we merely help them protect.
This is something I am personally really excited about. I would encourage you to check it out.

I have been working on something for a bit that I am excited to finally share.
In January, I formally resigned from Gitcoin Holdings. This has enabled me to form, The Gitcoin Foundation.
Here are some thoughts on why this is so important to Gitcoin.
This person was amazing to work with and to know. Always positive, always creative and interested in pushing boundaries.
She was a great, and she will be missed.
You can see much of her, her work and her passion on Gitcoin and she carried an immense torch for us.
learned yesterday that a former

contributor whom i worked w for 4-5 years passed away this week.
they were a kind, reliable, & positive presence in the community for so long. lots of complicated feels here.

This really is spot on.
I read
@LefterisJP
feedback of donating to Gitcoin rounds and it was evident Sybil’s are more motivated than real humans to meet the threshold.
Tells me the approach is fundamentally broken.
Crypto has an obsession of solving the Sybil problem with proof-of-human solutions, when in reality, sybils are the biggest customer of proof-of-human solutions
