TIL: Look at the @Yugabyte documentation if you prefer railroad diagrams or if you feel the original @PostgreSQL docs are too brief. For example https://t.co/sSPR6A1Uqc vs.

English is a funny language - and there are some words I use frequently but have to be extra-careful with. Like "assess" - missing one 's' at the end makes it an unfortunate mistake if its the title to a slide π

This made me laugh ππ: > Larry even inserted βRAFTβ in his 23ai ppt - Reliable, Redundant, Replicated and Fault Tolerant That said, I'm OCD when it comes to spelling it "Raft" versus "RAFT" (as in not using all caps). https://t.co/R6IC29vViu Maybe its just me π

Great to hear @pdevisser on Distributed SQL Databases at MakeIT 2024 & @jcon_conference OpenBlend Slovenia 2024 It deserved a YugabyteDB sticker of course π Great to get feedback from database expert who knows how databases are used by enterprises

Love it!! @FranckPachot is simply awesome π And for those of you in the US, he is planning a road trip here, so stay tuned (not ever sure if Iβm supposed to say that but oh well, Iβm excited π)
@FranckPachot Is a legend. His understanding of @Yugabyte is unparalleled. It would nice if he shared more talks on it. Try watching his supporting act on Multi-Region Yugabyte on Kubernetes:

True #PostgreSQL compatible FTW!!
#DSS2023 keynote by @karthikr: PostgreSQL applications working on YugabyteDB with no modifications. Even complex schemas, even with performance parity (local execution is low latency, and adds resilience, and can scale out some tables for resilience and scale)

Thanks for the call out @MarkCallaghanDB, we do stand by our claims πππ BTW, a sneak peak at what's coming soon: we're bridging NewSQL and Distributed SQL in a single product (saw your other blog about these categories).

In short @Yugabyte scales ACID not by waiting on 2PC but - consensus for row / index entry replication - distributed transaction table for multi-shard tx (replicated with consensus) - optimization for single-shard/zone/region tx with local tx table - fast path for single row tx
Distributed transactions, that is, atomic commitment, look a lot like a distributed consensus problem: All participants must either commit or abort a transaction π€π€βοΈβ However, atomic commitment is quite different from consensus π #ThinkingInDistributedSystems #goals2023
