… and there is a desperate need for dedicated oceanographic data collection and geophysical measurements of outlet glaciers in the Antarctic Peninsula to further shed light on the precise local-scale mechanisms responsible for seasonal ice flow

But what does this all mean? Large-scale climatic forcing may have important implications for ice discharge in Antarctica depending on their future evolution…

We also find a relationship between ENSO and Antarctic ice-flow seasonality, with the unprecedented magnitude El Niño event of 2016 driving an anomalous wintertime speed-up through enhanced local and oceanic forcing as shown by the anomalies below…

We use @ESA_EO @CopernicusEU Sentinel-1 SAR-derived ice velocities & 15+ remotely sensed, reanalysis and modelled datasets to show that summertime speed-up is: 💧an immediate response to surface meltwater presence AND 🌊 a delayed response to sea-ice-modulated oceanic forcing
