— unmatched clinical training, perfect amount of autonomy balanced with support, tons of research, and the most supportive and fun co-residents (and faculty) of all time. additional perk: golden weekends are actually golden, and NO 24-hour calls🙂 would pick 10x over.
as interview season approaches, this is a reminder for applicants that no matter what the floor schedule is or how many world-class lecturers they fly in for grand rounds, etc — I cannot understate the value of good people (both co-residents AND faculty).

today I met a cardiologist who loves the kidneys nearly as much as he loves the heart and I have never felt so validated in my life

last week of CCU (as a resident, but hopefully not forever!) with my future co-chief was chaotic but incredibly educational and fun! the trip to the helipad was the *cherry on top* 🍒(get it? 😅)
first ever poster accepted to a conference and I’m using my excitement to tweet about it because I texted my mom and she said “what’s that”

finished my first week on service as an inpatient medicine attending!
definitely challenging, but a great learning experience where I got to spend a lot of time at the bedside ❤️ which reminded me that being a doctor is truly the best job in the entire world.

This is the last week in which I’ll be accepting personal statements for review. If you, or anyone you know, has been struggling to find someone to critique their personal statement for residency, please send them my way - I am happy to help!📝
officially finished residency! ✔️ next up ➡️ chief year! 💃🏻 grateful for all the challenges that helped me grow and excited for (& terrified of, tbh 😂) the ones that lie ahead.
in the meantime, we are flying far away to reset before a pandemic steals the moment like last time.
It makes me so happy to see EVERYONE who has matched🩺💕

As a doctor in training, I’ve found that there are few things that compare to receiving a page/phone call in the middle of the night that a very sick patient you are caring for got an organ. Getting to share that moment with them/their family is life changing every single time.
If

cannot handle student loan payment resumption (which they have made it very clear that they cannot), a simple solution seems like forgiving my loans and saving us both the headache. then neither of us feel overburdened! 🤷🏼♀️

today, I would like to give a personal thank you to my med-school interviewer who rejected me & told me I’d “never” pass STEP because my MCAT score was so bad. today, I’m officially done with USMLE. couldn’t have done it without your continuous motivation👊🏼❤️
As a woman in medicine, I’ve been mistaken for a variety of different professionals but today I was mistaken for a minister which was quite different and I felt that deserved a tweet.

IM PGY-2 here who’s worked out 4-5 times a week for the last 2 years — it’s all about prioritization. you’ll never have the time unless you make it a priority! even if it’s 15 min workout per day some rotations, it’s important to fit it in to keep it a habit.
sitting on an AKI and sincerely hypoglycemic after a day of complete chaos BUT just finished my last inpatient floor rotation of residency!
next time I am on floors… I will be an attending!!! 🤢😬🆘

today I asked my med students what they want a lecture on tomorrow and when they replied “let’s review the kidney” I felt like I got kicked in the stomach. Here’s to learning about the kidney tonight☝🏽

USCE! better quality LORs that can attest to your clinical capabilities, which is what many programs care about. additionally, gives you experience in navigating the US healthcare system which, I’m sure you know, is incredibly different than elsewhere!
Fast forward to PGY3 where I’m looking back at where my patients & I started — & I’m here to tell you, like anyone who loves primary care, the long term gratification of outpatient medicine is unmatched 🥹
We love a good reduction of risk factors 🫀

last week, our local SPCA was full and they were encouraging adoptions. all of the young cats were already adopted, but this loving, 17-year-old beauty was left behind (probably because of her age 😞) so we welcomed Boo to our family and after 1 week she is adjusting nicely❤️

today, I became the attending who quizzes their team on the types of renal tubular acidosis & I spent every minute since rounds this morning reflecting on who or what hurt me.
& also reflecting on what method I used to actually get these to finally stay in my brain?
#WhyIM
: in the last week, I’ve managed hypertensive emergency and mixed hypovolemic + distributive shock (don’t worry, they made it to the ICU) on service, and both basic and resistant hypertension in clinic today. the spectrum of vessels, bby.

residency is weird because some days you are incredibly self critical for absolutely anything & everything and other days you are just very pleased with simply surviving your shift.
how I’m surviving my week on nephrology service: my attending uses cardiology analogies to teach me renal concepts.
it’s genius, and it’s also working. I understand the kidneys better than I ever have. We’re peaking.
what I was not expecting from my last night shift on a stretch of nights that has felt like an absolute eternity was my first emergent needle thoracostomy‼️ thanks for teaching,

onto the rest of my bucket list: a precordial thump.
the most toxic part of the toxic match process is that we have engrained into the minds of highly successful and qualified people that a bad system is their own failure.

How did I make it through medical school which required sitting in a cubicle for 12 hours a day when now I can’t even create 1 slide of my 15 minute presentation before becoming more interested in watching the barista make the cappuccinos which, by the way, I don’t even drink.
Our awards ceremony tonight made me reflect on exactly why I chose
@TempleIM
- I am so grateful to be surrounded by such intelligent, compassionate & hardworking individuals who put in so much work to patient care outside of the 80 hours a week that are required.
If Doug Mastriano wants to take away your right to life-saving reproductive care, he’ll have to get through me — and Pennsylvania’s doctors and nurses.
highlight of my week: seeing a 95 year old patient who told me their secret to staying mentally sharp is watching
@lawandordertv
and solving the crimes.
my future is bright, y’all!!!
the energy of Philadelphia while on my run this morning actually made my undernourished, sleep-deprived long run after 2 weeks of floors quite manageable.
highlight of my day was diagnosing carpal tunnel and also hearing a new murmur that changed a pre-op risk strat not at all because it makes me feel good about myself, but instead to make the people who believe the physical exam has lost it’s importance reconsider their beliefs!
friendly reminder as you advance in your career that it costs exactly zero dollars & zero cents to pay it forward.
so proud of my mentees, most who have overcome extreme amounts of adversity, in securing their residency positions. Heavy “proud mom” vibes over here.

applicants, its a really exciting/nerve-wrecking time of year: residency interview season! Intern-Me created a YouTube series on how to prepare for residency interviews from start to finish- check it out, share w/ friends, & best of luck!❣️
I wonder how many more times I’ll have to look up the recommendations for the pneumonia vaccine series until I remember it. Apparently every 5 weeks for the last 1.5 years isn’t frequently enough.
Spaced repetition is failing me.
ending PGY-2 year in a new hospital, with new people, on a rotation that makes me very uncomfortable: oncology.
I promised myself yesterday I’d work very hard to turn this weakness into a strength but then I heard the word “topoisomerase” today & immediately wanted to go home.🆘
I don’t know about anyone else, but the thing that blindsided me the most about adulthood was how tiring (and annoying) it would be to have to decide what to eat for dinner every single day for the rest of my life.
some days the imposter syndrome is very real, but I’m always proud to be an

in IM residency, a large portion of training is inpatient, where we grow accustomed to short term gratification. As an intern, who spent large portion of time on floors, I frequently wondered if I was making any difference in clinic.
today I learned that a good coping mechanism for my imposter syndrome is reading my own clinic notes from my first week of residency. The progress I’ve made stares me right in the eye 😂

7 months ago I was disgruntled that I would never get to hug a patient during my residency training & truthfully was starting to believe it really would never happen.
TODAY I HUGGED MY FIRST PATIENT OF RESIDENCY BECAUSE SHE WAS EXCITED TO HAVE GOTTEN HER VACCINE. SCIENCE. 🥰💃🏻
Does every new attending experience as much decision fatigue as I currently have?
I can’t even choose between still and sparkling by the time I get home.
procedures are fun and nailing a diagnosis is satisfying but there is nothing more rewarding that connecting with a family when you have to deliver bad news and they respond with gratitude.
if residency has prepared me for one thing, it’s how to flip a sleep schedule on the drop of a time. makes navigating jet lag somewhat more manageable. It’s probably not good for me.
heard the word “leishmaniasis” for the first time since STEP1 and am now averaging only 3 nosebleeds per day from my initial 4. having a blast on my global health rotation!
best of luck to all if those applying to the
