Congrats to @srajagopalan & @kadambari_shah for their research on labor deregulation being cited in India's 2024-2025 Economic Survey! 🎉 The report highlights their research on how excessive compliance burdens—from spittoon placement rules to rigid work-hour limits—make it

The economic survey focusses on lowering the cost of business through deregulation to push India into a higher trajectory of economic growth. And does an excellent job of identifying the core areas for reform. Message is clear, we need 2025 to be another 1991 moment!

Manmohan Singh guided talent to where it could make the greatest difference. A remarkable mentor who shaped India's transformation not just through his work, but also through generations of economists he spotted and nurtured. A tribute by @srajagopalan, @kadambari_shah and me.
In our tribute to Manmohan Singh @shreyasnarla @kadambari_shah and I argue that Singh was the finest talent scout in India, a skill that would go on to shape the country’s economic policy for decades. His keen talent scouting was his most remarkable quality that has been least

New @mercatus Policy Paper Alert: 📢 Did you know that 95% of India’s industrial units employ fewer than 10 workers. One of the main reasons Indian firms are reluctant to scale is prohibitively costly labor regulation. In this paper, @kadambari_shah and I survey India's labor

Who was the first Indian woman with formal training in economics? I have asked several experts but there is no clear answer. Meanwhile, I accidentally came across this excerpt from the Mysore Economic Journal, circa 1934. Over to you, @kadambari_shah @shreyas_nl @srajagopalan

Delighted to discuss my research with @srajagopalan on the podcast @IdeasofIndia @mercatus! We spoke about my job market paper that shows how pessimistic beliefs about peers can reduce useful social interactions in slums in urban India. Listen to it here:
