bad chess joke of the day Why does converting a Q vs. R endgame feel so boring sometimes? Because it's a 9 to 5 job

Just pointing out the amazing work being done in 🇯🇵 every round: 📺Streaming the Japanese teams' games 🎤2-person commentary team Most amazing of all...games start 10pm 🇯🇵 time, and they go until the end, even if it's 3:30am. Phenomenal work in a country where chess is small!

9th World Champion Tigran Petrosian was perhaps the biggest master of exchange sacrifices in chess history. Here are 23 of his wins involving these sacs against world-class opposition, mostly as Black! https://t.co/dfYEt03UcO

@ImShahinyan @juntaikeda @GMJacobAagaard I see various scoring systems have been proposed 👇 however, they look more suiting the use of machine chess than human player's https://t.co/hMwZhrvwY1

@juntaikeda @GMJacobAagaard This is a really interesting topic! :) When I was 7, I started to learn chess. My coach told me that the king is worth 3 points (not 0, or immortal :) ), and he explained this by bringing up examples of different endgames. And I think this is an interesting approach, as

Read in @GMJacobAagaard's A Matter of Endgame Technique today, "Typically, we say that the king is worth 4 pawns in the endgame." This was news to me, while some people told me they'd heard of it. Did you know?

My weekly quote: "It was like when you make a move in chess and just as you take the finger off the piece, you see the mistake you've made, and there's this panic because you don't know yet the scale of disaster you've left yourself open to". Kazuo Ishiguro

Quick thread on the @FIDE_chess #candidates2024 through an analytics lens. Time management: Nepo ... and the others. He reaches move 35 with a median of almost 30 minutes for 5 moves left. @GMHikaru has 10 minutes for the 5 moves at that point, and @AlirezaFirouzja less than 5m

Shocked to see ...h6 from Gukesh. I "discovered" it late 2023, and then had the privilege to play it myself in this year's Australian Championships. I would have never imagined though, that Gukesh would be using the very same idea in such a high-stakes situation. (cont)

What a kingside attack by @juntaikeda !! The concentration of pieces would make Vukovic (Art of Attack) happy. Two focal points for mate, too!
