On personal news: after 6 great years at @SoundCloudDev working with so many talented folks who I already miss dearly, I've decided to take the next step in my career. I'm starting today at @gradle to help make even more engineers productive across our industry 🐘.

A key I keep hitting. It's very difficult to get organizational buy-in, and ultimately I see startups - in that platform-as-product mindset - with externally developed products being preferred by budget owners.
An early trend I see happening, which could gain more traction:. Product managers joining internal-facing engineering teams (e.g. platform teams, dev tools teams) and bringing some of the practices that treat other engineers as customers. Gathering feedback, personas etc.

Inspiring story from some of the fine folks I had the chance (and honor) to learn from at @SoundCloudDev and how this homebrewed project became an industry standard!. Also, very entertaining storytelling and bonus glimpses of SC's Berlin office🤩.

This great rant touches on so many points on how (or how not?) to build a software platform. Cloud, Android, Chrome, even Emacs. It's all about the customers - and who is willing to _pay_. Fun reading.
While it's true that this can be efficiently summarized as "platforms should not deprecate APIs" - you're missing all the fun if you don't read the full @Steve_Yegge rant.

Very curious to see how industry-available OSS platforms like #backstage will create opportunities for revenue generation on the #DevXP space. I can imagine whole companies built on the idea of selling plug-ins, or existing ones adding that offering to their existing packages.

Been on my reading list and now that I got to it, I wish I had done it earlier - so many things resonate. The more experienced, the more I question previous 'givens' in my career.
I wrote a blog post about the past 10 years. What I learned, what I unlearned, what I changed my mind on, what I value and what I now ignore - after 10 years of working as a programmer.
