As an alumni of Oklahoma Christian University’s graphic design department, I am shocked and saddened to know that Michael O’Keefe has been fired. This thread will list the facts as I know them.

"Good girl" conditioning has us believing our role is: to get other people to like or approve of us in social settings, to not "rock the boat", and to betray our own needs in order to appear selfless. HERE'S HOW TO UNLEARN IT:

Three weeks ago, I had a miscarriage. I was six weeks pregnant. I live in Texas, a state that has effectively banned abortions. A thread about what it is to cease to be pregnant in a state where abortions are banned:

"The absence of process will leave faculty, students & the public w/o confidence in the accuracy/legitimacy of OC's allegations against O'Keefe, not to mention OC's Academic Policy Manual, & suggests OC is cognizant that it's assertions about O'Keefe cannot withstand scrutiny."
Leaders with FIRE, said their investigation of OCU's firing of Michael O'Keefe confirmed the longtime graphic design professor was terminated for exercising his academic freedom and wasn't given an opportunity to defend himself against allegations.

This a very thorough article that I highly recommend everyone read!

I want to clarify that I do not blame any news outlet for printing the details of this email. If the eye witness testimonies prove true — It is OC who will need to answer for their defamatory accusations, not any news outlet. (16/14)

I beg the public to wait until we hear from the eye witnesses before they believe OC’s accusations. As far as the public knows presently, OC has resorted to slander in order to redirect public opinion away from OC’s stance on sexual orientation. (14/14)

The TV clip from @NEWS9 contains shocking accusations of the guest speaker, but again, I urge the viewer to remember that this report is devoid of all the facts. (13/14)

Tonight at 6pm, @NEWS9 interviewed Michael O’Keefe about his termination. The report included some information from Eck’s email, but was also missing Jacobs’ quote with the key information about the eye witnesses. (12/14)

After I notified the editor of this key missing information, they added an editor’s note including Jacobs’ quote with reference to The Oklahoma. I greatly appreciate the addition of this note. (11/14)

This morning, OC’s newspaper, The Talon, posted a story including some of the information said in Eck’s email, but not including Jacobs’ counter quote about the defamatory-nature of the email. (10/14)

Please note that Jacobs claims that the email is both “factually incorrect” and “defamatory.” He also claims that OC has received “formal objections” to the accusations made in the email “from current faculty members” who witnesses the presentation. (9/14)

The Oklahoman article also quotes Michael O’Keefe’s lawyer, Kevin Jacobs. See attached quote. (8/14)
