There is joy. We are as tattered as anything else. We are not ruined, & we have one another. We have time. Be careful. Be kind.

The poet, Philip Larkin said, “we should be careful // Of each other, we should be kind / While there is still time.” In JXN tonight, there are birds. There are smiles. There is confetti & children & love & yes, there is ruin & thousands, like us, w/o clean water, but /4

This is just a fraction of our neighbors, local churches, the barber shops, & groceries without water. Our public schools, gone indefinitely virtual. Homes under feet of water from flooding. Fire stations with lines several blocks long with no more water to distribute. /3

Below is a photo of our city, Jackson, from @Space_Station. Perspective like this makes our water crisis seem so microscopic, but the tens of thousands of homes & businesses encapsulated by this photo speak silent volumes of how massive this problem truly is. /2

From one Mississippian to another: We’re still here, & our hearts are with yours in this crisis. Our lives are all so short, so tender, & so vulnerable. Though for Detroit, this poem by Jamaal May gives us some solace tonight. Be kind while there is time.🧵 https://t.co/euacRfZC2c
