Yup, wasn’t commenting on the headline accuracy. They were using similar headlines when I started as a cub reporter in the 1980s. I was commenting on a line in the story about staffing, which is problematic if, like millions of us, you have to deal with SS

@jsalzerajc @ajc @AP Solvency & admin competence are different issues. I think DC generally does a good job sending out money — e.g. Covid. If competence slips badly, Trump Admin will pay hell pretty quickly. But solvency is a decade (ish) away. I don’t think the story today supports the headline

Yup, no chance Congress will pass anything to hinder itself or the administration from creating/adding to generational wealth with insider info. My guess is, given the time constraints, AP only checked the bigwigs and attention seekers in Congress. Hopefully they follow up

@jsalzerajc I agree, but I’m guessing that it’s not likely to pass anytime soon. I don’t have any problem with stories like this. But I do wonder how many members the AP checked.

You can take the “AP is biased” angle on this but the current market manipulation begs a stronger debate about whether members of Congress (and admin officials) should be allowed to trade in the market or what they should be allowed to trade in while in office. #gapol

Do we think the AP checked for stock transactions by all 536 members of Congress? I’d be interested to know how many others did the same. As for whether MJT or any MC had any effect on tariff policy, I’m skeptical.

Easier for the AG to go after somebody in the opposing party. Willis has a huge MAGA target on her back

@jsalzerajc AG isn’t aggressive enough, in my opinion. His office prosecuted Mayor Reid’s press sec after she stiffed a Ch2 records request, and that sent a strong message. But we need more.

@jsalzerajc Difference is the pushback here came from a skilled & tenacious litigator. Most reporters, citizens, interest groups who are turned down don’t sue.

Interesting since you and I know public officials have ignored Open Records Act requests for years with little state response and few consequences.

Wow, the hits keep on coming for the Fulco DA. Now a judge orders her to pay $54k in legal fees for intentionally violating the Open Records Act. Willis — who regularly offers exclusive interviews to ⁦@wsbtv⁩ — offers a “no comment” this time.

And not like y’all’s “studies” on tort changes weren’t sponsored by businesses that would benefit from limiting lawsuits. You get what you pay for when special interests pay for “studies.”

This morning’s @ajc article on SB 68’s impact on health care in Georgia is truly one for the ages. The story quotes three supporters of the bill and its positive impact on health care costs, workforce, and access: a health care provider in Macon, another in Claxton, and a

@ajc⁩ does a nice job illuminating his 11th hour campaign money spending binge by Rep. Drew Ferguson. It’s not illegal, just unseemly. He should be embarrassed, but I doubt he is.

Buried in the ⁦@ajc⁩ interview with the APS super is this figure: the district office (not schools) grew by $100 million last yr. Keep that in mind when someone complains schools are underfunded. Meanwhile, 23% of black 3d graders are reading proficient.

Been a boondoggle from Day 1 in Atlanta but it works well here in Valencia #RichardBelcher because it takes people where they want to go. I’ll take you on it when y’all visit #gapol

Damn smart move by the mayor. This radiated $200+ million boondoggle. I’ve been griping about that proposal for a couple of years. Glad AD finally took my advice.

I read this @ajc story a couple of times. There are complaints cuts will “hurt” and references to “denuding” and “gutting,” but best I can tell, no one makes the case for “catastrophic.” Is there an editor in the house?

Sara Gregory @ajc writes about 30 excessively optimistic grafs anout ATL’s streetcar w/o telling us current ridership. She says it’s 97% of 2019 level — when it was lousy — but no current number. And she doesn’t bother to track down a single transit skeptic.

Amid a revolt over the spending bill, @GovKemp outlined his stance: “They need to get something done. Whatever the mechanics of that are, they can work out. But it needs to include disaster relief. We’re going to have big problems in our state if we do not get that done.” #gapol
