Kollegani @FrederikSchenk taustoittaa viime viikon AMOC/Golf virta -uutista. Kuten usein käy, sinänsä laadukkaan tutkimuksen uutisoinnissa on vähän mennyt mutkia suoraksi. Kiinnostavaa sinänsä, että simulaatio saa AMOCin sammumaan, mutta ei kerro miten lähellä tilannetta ollaan.

10/10: In addition, the rainfall pattern is Mediterranean, with the driest summer month below 40 mm and with less than 3x the precipitation of the wettest month (the "s"). I suspect this is because the orientation of the mountains blocks the rains during summers, but not winters.

9/10: These Norway locales are extreme edge cases of what we conventionally call as "Mediterranean": the temperature of the coldest month is just barely above 0ºC (the "C" of the "Csb") and the summers only narrowly classify as warm, with four or more months above 10ºC (the "b").

8/10: The real lesson here is perhaps that the Köppen classifications are necessarily quite broad to represent the global diversity of seasonal temperature and precipitation in 30 classes. Despite the same classification, these locales are quite different from Porto or Cape Town.

6/10: This grid cell is located quite deep inland on the shore of Sognefjord, the largest fjord in Norway, at the eastern terminus of the Amla tunnel.

5/10: Second locale at 61.162N, 7.338E, with a single one-kilometre grid cell with Csb climate.

4/10: In street view: the far shore of the lake is "Mediterranean". A prime spot for a vineyard or a citrus grove, perhaps?

3/10: These grid cells are located along a 10-kilometre stretch at the western shore of the lake Eikesdalsvatnet, near Molde.

2/10: First locale at 62.562N, 8.154E, with a total of 14 one-kilometre grid cells with Csb climate.

1/10: I was looking at the Beck et al. (2018) ( climate dataset, and came across an amusing curiosity: two tiny spots in Norway with a "Mediterranean" (Köppen Csb) climate. Both places have Google street views, so pack your sunscreen and let's have a look:.
