Both the US and UK have a housing crisis. But it is so, so much worse in Britain - and not just in London. Once you account for average incomes, the data is stark. (From @jburnmurdoch, as ever)

The UK is a great country with an extraordinary history. Our stagnation is real, but it's fixable and worth fixing. Enjoyed giving this talk at @lfg_uk last week and so encouraged by the optimistic responses I've had from people who are building a brilliant future for Britain 🚀

I’m finishing a piece with @britishprogress on a contribution-based migration system - how we square a migration system that inspires public consent with economic growth. More soon. But today’s @FT/@jburnmurdoch column nails the stakes: the UK is losing allure for top talent.

Learned something new today: 1. About half of the warming from flying comes from contrails, not CO₂ 2. Just 3% of flights cause 80% of contrail-related warming 3. Rerouting those flights to avoid contrails would increase flight time by only ~1% Via @_HannahRitchie

Imagine we found *literal gold* underneath British soil. What would stop us mining it? You guessed it, UK planning law! As covered in @TheEconomist self-imposed rules are stopping us accessing critical minerals in Tyrone, NI (meanwhile we import critical minerals from China)

Benefit-cost ratio seems pretty damn high
New for @_fitzwilliam: I wrote about the current struggles of the Irish Maths Olympiad, and why I think it can be saved with a trivial amount of money

Absolutely risible stuff on housing in the FT. This kind of argument only makes sense if people don't care if they live in London versus rural Co. Durham. https://t.co/rRlYj5ErSs

If I were the Secretary of Energy, I would simply not make claims that are off by multiple orders of magnitude. Solar + batteries are the future, and no amount of misinformation will change that.
