-Horned crocodilians- I hope you are all having a great #worldcrocodileday For this year's celebration, I bring this poster that compiles 4 crocodilian species, extinct and alive, that have developed "horns" (elevated lobes of the squamosal bones).

A male Voay robustus rests with a female C. niloticus during the breeding season about 1000 years ago. He´s blissfully unaware that he is the last member of his species, but that's okay. What's extinction compared to the love of a lady and the warm rays of the sun on your face?

Fresh ink! We look at how the skulls of rock-wallabies change with size and how size influences jaw anatomy and biting ability The tiniest species seem to be particularly good at biting @WeisbeckerLab @MegL_Martin https://t.co/fqORChHolm

And so the Riversleigh stream concluded! Lots of weird marsupials in this one. Since we chose to depict here a Miocene faunal zone you will not come across your typical Australian megafauna, like Diprotodon and Dromornis, that stuff came later.

Happy #FossilFriday! Meet Boverisuchus, the amazing crocodyliform from Europe & North America (about 45 million yrs ago). It was well-adapted for hunting on land, w/ long legs held under the body, a shorter tail & hoof-like toes + it had serrated teeth! Likely prey: early horses!

Not sure if a Christmas goose will be on your table, but here's an interesting domestic Chinese goose skull. It's a species of "knob goose," named for the casque on its face. Fun to find the source of the knob's pneumaticity, which we first identified in ostrich back in 2008
