For strategy practitioners, I think nothing would be more interesting than to listen to @RogerLMartin, @fogathbs and @hamiltonhelmer discuss their ideas among themselves on #strategy in depth. #BigAskOfTheWeek #strategy

6/ A great short book (65 pages) on the TOC Logical Thinking Process is  “The Logical Thinking Process – An Executive Summary” by Bill Dettmer (one of the world’s leading experts on the topic). It can be read within an hour.

5/ The TOC body of knowledge is not very well known in management circles. I learned a lot of things and fall in love with the TOC Logical Thinking Process (LTP):.

4/ It has helped me improve the quality of discussions because the traditional question (what is your goal?) is not clearly answered by most people. But his "units" question moves the conversation into the metrics space. It makes it very concrete.

2/ Goldratt insisted very much on having clarity on the goal to be achieved (the title of his famous novel is precisely that, "The Goal"). He used during the training a question that I have used several times and has served me very well when discussing at work or at home.

1/ In 2009, I was very fortunate to attend a 5-day training with Eli Goldratt, the founding father of the Theory of Constraints (TOC). [Thread 👇]

It works very well with early-stage ventures. I suspect that it will work also very well in established corporations (small, mid or large size).

Established companies need some sort of "the protagonist of the week" type of accountability. Not what you have done this week (input) but what you have accomplished this week (output).

#3.The process lasted for 8-10 weeks, always with the same group of mentors, to ensure that startups got the right direction.

#2.Each week teams had to present in front of the whole class what they had learnt during the week from doing customer development interviews. A group of 4-6 mentors would then go on to challenge their learnings and provide extensive feedback.

Blank was obsessed with the accountability from startups. His method was all about:. #1.Talking to potential customers/users/stakeholders to validate hypothesis before building anything.

I don't know if this is standard practice in European/Western schools, but I have found it a very interesting exercise. It has made me think of something I learned from @sgblank and @jeromesengel in 2013, in the iCorps / Lean Launchpad training in Berkeley/Stanford.

My kid (about to turn 5yo) is this week "The Protagonist of the Week" in his class. He has to select photos, books and songs that he likes, and explain them to the rest of his class. This was not done when I was schooled forty years ago.

. the politically impossible becomes the politically inevitable". In times of stability, money is the driving force. Those with money rule the world. In times of crisis, ideas are the driving force. Those with the right ideas manage to change the world, for better or for worse.
