Another big performance update: we've shipped some updates that improve UDP throughput 4× over bare metal Linux and (for now) past the in-kernel WireGuard implementation. 😎 Read more and check out our benchmarks →

QUIC usage in the data center propelled UDP segmentation and receive offload support in to the Linux kernel. These offloads are also applicable for WireGuard, and we used them to enable Tailscale to surpass 10Gb/s on Linux. I wrote more details here - https://t.co/bVaK6MrkJD.

Great post on the impacts of not (correctly) implementing RFC7606 in BGP. CoreBGP does comply in its update decoding logic. It would also serve nicely as a fuzzer for such research.

@nnoouuvv @edude03 The main thing NAT does is make it significantly harder to host something yourself than at a cloud provider. Not impossible, maybe not even hard, just harder. And that’s enough to have defined the shape of the modern internet.

This has been my biggest gripe with tailscale and now it might ..not be there anymore. Need to confirm with my VPS and NAS on CPU usage as well but this might be the final straw to go full tailscale.

Userspace WireGuard doesn't have to be slow. We've made some changes that let us saturate 10Gb/s and push wireguard-go past even the kernel WireGuard driver.

Comparison of iperf3 bandwidth test over 1Gig routed LAN with & without @Tailscale client. 690Mbps with Tailscale/Wireguard overhead Vs 900Mbps with none. Pretty amazing performance for internet scale. This is between Linux desktop on AMD against Intel NUC running Linux.
