Bring back simple ops with a fast, predictable, always-on computer in the cloud—yours. Run apps, agents, CI, and databases without hyperscale complexity.

i run all of my web apps and APIs on a modest VPS. it’s so damn simple and cheap. i couldn’t find a provider that did what i wanted - so i built one, and im opening it up to others. it’s called Cassette, and i like to think of it as the anti-serverless computer in the cloud

As always Simon is a good way to understand these sort of things, but I think I also increasingly expect shape of "LLM interacts with computers on your behalf" to mean "It writes ~disposable code" versus "It clicks buttons on a web interface, poorly, like Selenium but slower."

It’s such a terrible mental tax on builders that divisive clowns just ride in and spew these bullshit terms that they clearly don’t understand themselves in bad faith. Ignore & keep building
A group of Lefist Activists are pushing for the Ruby on Rails project to remove the project’s founder (@dhh) because they claim he “holds racist and transphobic views” and “other traits undesirable”. This group, which compares themselves to the French resistance during WWII, is

i regret to inform you gentlemen that hosting your apps on a little vps is in fact way better (faster/cheaper/more fun) than any PaaS.

one thing I've embraced in life is assuming I'm the dumb person brought in to ask obvious questions that incredibly specialized people forget about

everyone sayin vertical SaaS is "easy mode" but it's actually brutal. Finding real pain vs polite nods. Building something that's not already solved by incumbents with a huge head start. Starting with a “wedge” but having no clue what's next. Then repeating the whole customer

You don't have to say "I disagreed with him on some things". No-one agrees with everyone on everything. It's a pointless statement that just distances you from your own humanity.
