Also I’m sorry but if your biggest takeaway from waiting to exhale is how desperate they were to keep a man and not the sisterhood and personal growth throughout the film you missed the damn point.
I think it’s generally unhelpful to examine past TV shows/movies from a more modern, contemporary lens. We lose a lot of context for meaning making when we do this, too. You also run the risk of moral superiority when in 2025 it is very much *still* a thing to want a man bad lol.

American tipping culture is rooted in slavery. Newly freed people were still in service jobs and it was a way for employers to pay them less. The tipped minimum wage still is lower than the regular min wage & tips are what stand between a lot of service workers and a livable wage
