I was honoured to be asked to speak alongside Zimbabwe patriots and democracy activists at today’s protest in London at the continued detention without trial or bail of Zimbabwe opposition MP
@JobSikhala1
, a political prisoner of
@ZANUPF_Official
.
#FreeWiwa
The extraordinary contempt of
@PoliceZimbabwe
and
@ZANUPF_Official
for the Constitution of Zimbabwe and the rights of Zimbabwe citizens gets more brazen by the day
Zimbabwean lawyer, Kudzai Kadzere who was beaten up by police fracturing his hand, and is due for surgery tomorrow, has been arrested today by the police after he went to report assault by their officers.
The police accuse him of criminal nuisance & escaping from police custody.
Abductions, torture and even murder of political opponents of ZANU-PF has become a modus operandi of politics in Zimbabwe, highlighted by the attempted abduction of
@pmkwananzi
by state agents in the full glare of the media. That is how brazen the regime has become.
We strongly condemn the abduction and brutal assault of Womberaiishe Nhende, the elected Councillor for Glen Norah Ward 27 in Harare , and his colleague Sanele.
Reports indicate that
@Cde_Wombe
was abducted in Belvedere, tortured and dumped in Mapinga on the outskirts of Harare.
The continued detention of Job Sikhala MP is an affront to the Zimbabwe constitution & to all norms of democratic society. We call on the Zimbabwe government to release Job Sikhala immediately and end their prosecutorial persecution of the political opposition
Devastating news that Pastor Tapfumanei Masaya has been murdered. My heart breaks for Zimbabwe. But I also know justice will come one day. As Archbishop Tutu always said of the fight against apartheid, ‘God’s mills may grind slowly but they grind very fine all the same’
The abduction of Tapfumanei Masaya is yet further evidence of ZANU-PF’s brazen disregard for human rights and the rule of law. Pastor Masaya must be released immediately and the international community must make clear that ZANU’s brutal repression cannot continue with impunity
Those attending the inauguration of
@edmnangagwa
after deeply flawed elections which was marked by widespread intimidation particularly in rural areas and violated the Zimbabwe constitution at almost every turn, are endorsing this sort of brutality.
The property of Peter Taonana, the CCC candidate for Maramba Pfungwe Ward 1, has been set on fire.
For the past two weeks, ZANU-PF has been targeting CCC rural candidates and polling agents, destroying their properties.
The police and ZEC remain silent.
@PoliceZimbabwe
@ZECzim
On Thursday I will be asking a question in the
@UKHouseofLords
to highlight the continued detention of Job Sikhala MP and the many other innocent people detained for speaking out against tyranny. Among these are detained members of the Zimbabwe Student Union highlighted below
(1/7) Let’s for a moment focus on the 6 students who are members of the Zimbabwe National Students Union.
Most of you may not be so concerned with their plight because they are always listed as the

thus reducing them to mere statistics.
They are in jail because they

1/3 We have often heard of abductions of CCC activists by state agents which
@ZANUPF_Official
always denied. But last week we saw just such an attempt in full glare of media attention at a
@CCCZimbabwe
press conference…
Nelson Mukwenha, a
@CCCZimbabwe
member who helped resist state agents’ attempt to abduct CCC spokesperson
@pmkwananzi
in the full sight of media, has been abducted himself and is still missing 2 days later.
@PoliceZimbabwe
commissioner Godwin Matanga must be held accountable
This is fantastic news. But the real question is why the perpetrators of torture of
@JoanaMamombe
@ceechimbiri2
and their colleague
@MarovaNetsai
have not been brought to justice. And why these brave women were subjected to prosecutorial harassment over a period of three years
ZLHR BREAKING NEWS: Zim High Court has vindicated 2 victims of torture, Harare West MP Hon.
@JoanaMamombe
&
@ceechimbiri2
, one of opposition

party leaders by acquitting them on charges of communicating falsehoods for allegedly faking their abduction&torture in 2020
Last year this time I was sleeping on a lice infested concrete prison bed. No-one would believe that a year latter I would share jokes with Lords Jonny & Peter soon after addressing (as a guest speaker) the annual

Today, on
@PeterHain
‘s behalf, I’ll be moving his amendment to the Economic Crime & Corporate Transparency Bill, requiring the UK to support the creation of an International Anti-Corruption Court to hold to account kleptocrats who loot their countries and impoverish their people.
Great to see so many people coming together for the launch of
@UnitedAMH
this morning. Through collaboration with all the brilliant people working in this field and by bringing new voices to the debate, we will raise the profile of global malnutrition and drive action to end it.
We pray for the repose of the soul of The Revd Canon John Oates, Rector of
#StBrides
1984–2000, who has died aged 93 after a short illness.
We remember his beloved late wife, his family & friends, and give thanks for his service and dedication to the church. May he rest in peace
2/3 Since then Nelson Mukwenha who helped resist the abduction of
@pmkwananzi
, has himself been abducted.
@PoliceZimbabwe
are clearly responsible for this action as it was their officers - acting outside the law - who attempted that abduction which he helped resist…
The
@ZANUPF_Official
regime continues to stamp on freedom of expression because they are terrified of what the people of Zimbabwe would say if they were ever allowed to say it.

Shocking news of Hamas attacks on Israeli citizens this morning with many killed and injured. Hamas violence should be utterly condemned. It will resolve nothing except bring further misery to both Israeli and Palestinian people.

Three reasons why we created a new alliance against global hunger:
1. 2 in 3 children will go to bed hungry tonight
2. More people are going hungry today than in 2019
3. The clock is ticking

In solidarity with the Israeli people at this terrible time. The scenes out of Israel are horrific and terrifying. Hamas and Islamic Jihad’s actions are brutal and barbaric and are sowing appalling misery for everyone in the region.
In Parliament today, I raised the continued pre trial detention of

Very disturbed by the refusal of the FA to light up Wembley arch. Whatever one’s views on Israel and Palestine, it is surely the least we could do to stand in solidarity with citizens of a country that has been so barbarically and horrifically attacked
