A Labour spokesperson has been in touch to say this isn't a U-turn, because despite Nandy's comments in September and previous manifestos "a rent freeze has never been Labour party policy". Readers are welcome to make up their own minds
@joncstone
The party I voted for from 1984 to 2019 but not anymore. While Starmer and people like him run what used to be a labour party (the clue was in the name) they've lost my vote.
@joncstone
Please, please, please can someone explain to me what the point of
@UKLabour
is? I have never seen such a vacuous political party in my life, they just stand for nothing!
@joncstone
I haven't even thought through how all the factors might hang together. I mean, if house costs exceed rent allowed by cap limit then the landlord will have to exit, but I suppose rent caps may prevent too much competition bidding up mortgage/house prices by buyers?
