I am pleased that the union has paid tribute to someone I learnt so much from. Neil Sharp was a Sociologist, a Trade Unionist, and someone I will not forget. I am proud to have played a part in pulling together how we have much to learn from his legacy: https://t.co/d2d1Kbj881

Ever since I heard that the BBC reversed the footage from a clash on the picket line at Orgreave in June 1984 - making it look like the police retaliated to violence from striking miners - I have questioned how the BBC report on political news coverage.

Looks like extraordinary cowardice. "...following pressure from the Chinese state and a separate defamation law suit against the university, Sheffield Hallam decided not to publish a final piece of research by Prof Murphy and her team into forced labour." https://t.co/tXtnusxrwW

I’m dealing with two significant collective issues at a University where, the day after announcing proposals which will result in job losses and/or huge cuts in salary, the senior manager leading it jets off on annual leave. Some senior execs don’t give a damn about their staff.

The Labour government floating the idea of charging for Employment Tribunal fees shows what they really think about workers.

I’ve been a trade unionist all my working life. I always encourage others to become members of a trade union, including family members, such as a niece. I don’t rely on others to convince people they don’t know, as it would be easier and better for those words to come from me.

Bridget Phillipson has been utterly silent on redundancies in HE, her current brief. In her own Sunderland constituency the University has shed hundreds of jobs, across the North-East probably more like 1000 jobs have gone. Why should we trust what she says here? Come on TUC.
Make no mistake, let there be no doubt. We were elected to deliver this Employment Rights Bill and that is what we will do. We won’t accept any watering down by the Lords. In full. No ifs, no buts. - @bphillipsonMP at #TUC25

Good luck to everyone getting their GCSE results today. Don’t forget that the government wants students to find out via an app in the future, rather than in-person. Here’s a thread 🧵 on the issue👇
This Thursday, as GCSE students collect their exam results from schools and colleges, we might see the last photos and videos of celebrations between students and with staff. That is, if @bphillipsonMP and the Labour government have their way and abolish this rite of passage.

But I fear there will be little challenge to the Labour government on this issue. We will just hear from out-of-touch politicians, who are keen to save money. They see only the costs associated with giving out exam results, rather than the value of doing so in-person.
