I teach a class here at @WheatonCollege on the history of Christianity, focused on the first thousand years. One thought haunts me. We are right to look with shock and disappointment at the way medieval Christians accepted violence as a norm. 1/

Even Grok is apparently looking forward to the Undeceptions interview with Tom Schmidt about Josephus and Jesus! 😀
@johnpauldickson @DrLanternJack Excited for your interview with Schmidt—his stylometric analysis and new manuscript evidence are intriguing additions to the debate. While the partial authenticity view still holds as consensus, books like this could indeed spark reevaluation. Looking forward to the Undeceptions

Tonight. @WheatonCollege Choir singing the oldest known Christian song (200s AD). “Let all be silent … As we sing our hymn to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit … The only giver of all good gift gifts. Amen. Amen.”

For twenty years I’ve taught the standard scholarly view of the Testimonium Flavianum — the short passage about Jesus in the first-century Jewish historian Josephus. The consensus says Josephus wrote a brief, neutral remark about Jesus, later “improved” by a naughty Christian

As China detains yet another pastor, @undeceptions releases its deep dive on the persecution of Christians, both ancient and modern. Whether you believe or not, there is some important stuff here. https://t.co/VaBBhwMFPe

Just read my daughter's new research on the barriers low-income families face when accessing mental health care. The 87% I understood seems super important — and the rest was obviously too brilliant for her old man! https://t.co/eZRZulpheZ

This reminds me of that time another ABC presenter ventured to suggest Jesus was fiction — and received this polite history lesson from two of the nation’s most respected ancient historians.
Disclaimer before new edition of the New Testament. “ the following story is fictional and does not depict any actual person or event.”

This is a bit wonderful.
Have you heard the Bible in Old English? This Creationtide, listen to the Old English translation of the Genesis story of creation, made by the Anglo-Saxon monk Ælfric in the tenth century - the first time people in England heard the Bible in church in their native language.

I just learned that Divinity School enrolments at Wheaton College are up more than 25% in 3 years — 14% just this year! That’s more pastors trained, more young academics launched, and more not-for-profit leaders strengthened. Something special is happening at @WheatonCollege

This seems like a noble challenge.
If you are an ordained minister or credentialed academic and concerned about the disproportionate influence that "social media influencers" are having, one plea I can make is: speak up. The simple fact is that spiritual hunger and anxiety is so desperate right now that if

This is good and important (I could do without the word 'apologetics' but the material is fab!).
Today marks the launch of something I am proud of at The Keller Center: "The Gospel After Christendom" The book is on cultural apologetics and is intended for anyone from layperson to pastor looking to get a solid introduction to the field.

Christians have disagreed with each other over so many things, you could be forgiven for wondering if there is such a thing as genuine 'Christianity'. For the next three Sundays, that's my topic @barneysbroadway in Sydney, 10:00am and 5:30pm, Aug 31 | Sept 7 | Sept 14.

If you're out of church at the moment, or all out of faith, I'll be doing my best over the next three Sundays to explain what Christianity is and why it makes (rational, social, and emotional) sense. @barneysbroadway in Sydney, 10:00am and 5:30pm, Aug 31 | Sept 7 | Sept 14
