In Karenni State earlier this year, I met joint resistance forces from Pa-Oh National Liberation Army and Karenni Nationalities Defence Force. They arrived back from fighting in Shan State against the junta. Took some rest, food, and went back to fight for their country.

In Indawgyi region, the Junta began an offensive with hundreds of troops from Nam Mun town in May. To the north they have yet to make it the 2.5km to the next village. It took them 2 months to advance one village to the west. They briefly captured a 2nd village (!!) along that

In Kyaukphyu, Junta propaganda channels today are bragging about 'recapturing' the Kyaukphyu electrical substation, and 'sending the enemy fleeing'. The only problem is that the substation is >1.5km inside of the Junta frontlines that have been stable for months.

When people get so excited about those three examples, as if they shift the strategic calculus of the war, and overlook the other examples that go nowhere, perhaps they should reconsider whether this is analysis or merely latching onto talking points.

In Karenni State, @sai_rights and I visited Daw Si Ei School in Demoso just weeks after it was attacked by the junta, killing four children. A mother who lost her child told us at @FortifyRights: “The first time I saw my son after the airstrike… his body was deformed.”
