It’s officially been one year since my first story went live at @JustBB_Media! Incredibly grateful for all the opportunities year one presented. Cheers to a big year two!📈 For now, take a look at year one’s rewind below⬇️

I wrote about the Pirates’ Rule 5 protections today over at @JustBB_Media, and I wanted to highlight RHP Ryan Harbin a little closer Harbin had some of the best stuff I saw come through Altoona all year and I genuinely believe he can be a very high-leverage setup man in due time

The more time that’s passed, the more I’ve gotten excited about the idea of adding Brandon Lowe The Pirates haven’t had a 30 homer second baseman since (checks notes) Jeff King in 1996 It’s time to end that streak

Although it’s still early, I’m really hoping for Virginia OF AJ Gracia with the fifth pick in next year’s draft There’s a high chance he doesn’t make it to #5, but my goodness would this be a dream scenario Currently @OnTheClock_1’s #2 college prospect

The unfortunate thing is that we’re in such an awful spot where we have to prove to FAs that we’re serious by making a big splash, but we can’t do that without convincing someone to sign Really beginning to believe they need to act in the trade market before another FA pursuit

Key notes on Gregory Soto, your newest Pittsburgh Pirate! •Elite at limiting barrels (4% in 2025) •Devastating slider (45%+ whiff rate, .249 xwOBA) •Dominates lefties (Opponents hit .192/.280/.269)

Really, really like this pickup for the bullpen. I just wrote about Soto as a potential setup fit in my story earlier today at @JustBB_Media Great guy to take a chance on especially with Sisk being the only other lefty currently in the bullpen

“The Pirates have reached out to us. They've made it very aware that they're going to be active in the free agent market, and they intend to add free agent talent to their roster.” - Scott Boras at the Winter Meetings

One thing that’s really not gotten enough attention this offseason is how much our staff is being picked apart. Horowitz, Bleich, Butler, and others were all integral pieces of our staff. These losses will reallyyyy hurt

Sources: Pirates director of pitching development Jeremy Bleich leaving for AGM role with the Diamondbacks. Bleich had been with Pittsburgh for the past 6 seasons. Former player, smart & well-respected. Certainly part of team's recent pitching success.

Need another reason to like Paul Skenes? He recently approached Ben Cherington and volunteered to pitch free agent targets on playing in Pittsburgh. My story:

The Pirates offer of 4 years, $125m is far from something to scoff at. Although they fell short here, it’s time to take them serious as legitimate spenders this winter.

The Pirates’ offer for Schwarber had a slightly higher AAV than what he signed for with the Phillies, according to a source. They were also on hold a bit waiting to see if he would accept. What I’m hearing about what areas they’re targeting now. https://t.co/Fuw0i1uPsw

On the night he won the Cy Young, Paul Skenes talked about how much it would mean to win in Pittsburgh. Don Kelly, a Pittsburgh kid, talked yesterday about what it would mean to win in here. And that is a big part of Ben Cherington’s pitch to free agents. https://t.co/mVdyKt66cF

ORLANDO -- There are plenty of factors that go into courting a free agent. What are the terms of a potential contract? What does the playing opportunity look like? Is this the best fit?

Just a reminder for tonight, even if the Pirates don’t end up landing the #1 pick in the 2026 MLB Draft, there are plenty of stellar hitters in this year’s class besides Cholowsky. Drew Burress, AJ Gracia, Grady Emerson, and Chris Hacopian just to name a few.

For the first time in a while, the Pittsburgh Pirates have entered free agency as buyers, with a lineup that desperately needs some pop. Our @jmstaph24 tells us what should be on their wish list to make a big jump this season: https://t.co/2AASLMXJnP
