Such an interesting thread.
Having internalized Russian colonial gaze, I had once foolishly viewed Qazaq-speaking people as archaic and ignorant. It turns out I was the ignorant one. It is humbling to have been so wrong for such a long time. But, as they say, better late than never. 10/10.

The new military history festival @HerefordFest kicks off at the end of September and I'll be there, talking to the great Anna Reid about Ukraine. If that weren't exciting enough, Philippe Sands is on the evening before. Their books had such a huge impact on me. Daunting!

Journalist/Audio friends, say you wanted to strap a Tascam DR05 to yourself, so you could record continuously while running/filming/doing stuff. How best to do this? .Obv could just use duct tape & hope for best. But maybe there's an old phone case that'd work? 14 x 6 x .2.6cm.

Spent last week teaching the non-fiction essay course at Moniack Mhor writing centre in the Highlands. Daunting and wonderful. What a fantastic bunch - participants and staff - and what a beautiful, beautiful place.
