Over the past decade public intellectuals and policy circles have revitalized anti-monopolism. For @TheLibPatriot I explore whether the Democrats have finally rediscovered their oldest creed

Since the failure of “Bidenomics” to win popular acclaim, the Democratic Party has been torn over how to navigate a populist electorate and reform capitalism.

Democrats should def seize on fresh evidence of right sectarianism, homophobia, and racism permeating GOP party branches. All this stuff should alarm "normies" who swung to the GOP over identity politics. At the same time Democrats can't afford to have many more Jay Jones moments
This is some vile stuff. And these aren't teenagers. Many are Republican staffers. At least one works for Trump. "Epithets like “faggot,” “retarded” and “n--ga” appeared more than 251 times combined."

my latest investigation for @ConsumerReports is based on months of reporting and 60+ lab tests of leading protein supplements we found that most protein powders and shakes have more lead in one serving than our experts say is safe to have in a day — some by more than 10 times !

1/4 Interesting piece by Jonathan Levy, who argues that the current "polarization" in American politics, in which capitalism and democracy have seemed at cross purposes for over a decade, is neither new nor necessarily a bad thing. @_jonlevy

Economic booms sparked by capitalism can lead to inequality and then political upheaval. Democracy and capitalism, however, tend to improve as a result.

and yet they left off the Guardian (post-2015), lol
I have much to say about @LastWeekTonight lumping us in with Natl Review & The Federalist & Pod Save & Jacobin as an "opinion-heavy outlet." We are a news outlet that (regardless of our perspective) provides fact-based reporting. Putting us on this list is factually inaccurate.

.@iamjohnoliver says that at LWT, "our staff works incredibly hard to research stories before we write something & vigorously check afterward." On several occasions, that research has led them to... me. I've had hours of conversations with LWT producers about their stories.

extremely grateful for the Halal grocery store that opened up in my South Brooklyn neighborhood. I'm getting 18 eggs for $5.99

I’ll say it again — these fortunes —floated on almost two decades of cheap public money must be clawed back for the common good.
The 400 richest Americans are now worth a record $6.6 trillion. The entire bottom 50% of America is worth just $4.2 trillion. Read that back. When 400 people control more wealth than half a country’s population, we have a very serious problem.

Lately a number of prominent liberal journalists and podcasters have begun to finally wonder why the Democratic brand is so disdained by so many workers. But there's no grand puzzle here. As I argue for @TheLibPatriot Democrats are losing the culture war

The first year of Trump’s second term has been marked by a broad and growing assault on progressive values, norms, and practices.

It’s worth adding that Vance is literally right now spearheading a Supreme Court case aimed at destroying whatever still remains of America’s anti-corruption laws.
Q: " Tom Homan was recorded on an FBI surveillance tape in September 2024 accepting $50,000 in cash. Did he keep that money or give it back?" Vance: "You've covered this story ad nauseam. Tom Homan did not take a bribe." Q: "You're saying that he didn't take a bribe... Are you

After respondents see bios for both Dems, Platner outperforms Mills by — 21 pts among Trump voters — 16 pts among independents — 14 pts among conservatives — 13 pts among gun households — 13 pts among age 18-44 — 13 pts among Republicans — 10 pts in deeply rural North/West Maine
🚨 🚨 A new Maine Senate general election poll from @ZenithPolls — on behalf of @MorePerfectUS — finds Susan Collins in a tough position in her bid for a sixth term. After voters read bios of both Dem candidates, Graham Platner outperforms Janet Mills by 6 pts. Let’s dive in 🧵

What stage of capitalism is this? “The airline industry is contesting a new FAA rule that would force airlines to address serious flaws in potentially thousands of Boeing 737 planes — and they have powerful industry-connected allies in the Trump administration.”

I think it’s to @grahamformaine’s advantage to have Mills in the race. By beating her (and Schumer) Platner can solidify the impression that he is independent of the party, whose brand is fatally toxic
New: Maine Democratic Gov. Janet Mills is calling Democratic senators to say she’s going to announce her Senate campaign next week, per multiple senators. Schumer & other Senate Democrats see Mills as their best chance to defeat veteran GOP Sen. Susan Collins. @allymutnick
