Our tiny bird of prey, the Black-thighed Falconet (Microhierax fringillarius). Used a Nikon P900 to reach it, high up on a branch. They love to bob the head. #Ipoh #Perak #Malaysia @Avibase @orientbirdclub

Cooper’s Hawk perch hunting sparrows that were hiding in tall grass beneath a fence. Between attacks, he made soft & quick chip notes (like “pishing”) then watched intently for prey movement. First time I witnessed this interesting behavior/strategy before! #Accipiter

Happy hour at @SuperOwlBrewing with our amazing volunteer team! Volunteers are at the heart of our operations—our work would not be possible without them. Also DYK Super Owl donates beer samples for our annual spring & fall open house events? We’re so grateful for their support!

What appropriate timing for #NationalInvasiveSpeciesAwarenessWeek. Just finished my thesis surrounding the prevalence and abatement of European Starlings in kestrel nest boxes. Spoiler alert: there were a lot of them...

So honored to be mentioned in @subirdia ‘s new book!
A couple of years ago I got to drive around our field sites with @subirdia to talk #working birds and introduce him to the amazing growers and students we work with (like @jess_schlarbaum) and now, it’s in a book!

Going through nest cameras and found this gem. A young red-tailed hawk (right side of the frames) tried to grab a Swainson's Hawk nestling for an easy meal. Dad comes in to save the day - cue surprised red-tail. #raptorresearch

You're making me blush, CRC. ☺️
Our #WomanCrushWednesday is #UCDavis Avian Sciences master's student @jess_schlarbaum! A longtime part of our team, she also has worked with local farmers to install American Kestrel nest boxes to study the population. Thanks for your dedication to raptor health & conservation!
