Agree with this take. For the most elite technical talent in the world, driving a meaningful % uplift for the business (esp a trillion dollar company), the pay bands are actually under-comping them.
We discussed talent valuation in AI with @GuptaRK22 (Partner at @sequoia). “High performers in Silicon Valley have been underpaid for a long time. Comp bands assume everyone at a level is producing within 1–2x. But anyone who’s worked in a company knows that’s just not true.”

Love this. I’ve seen time and time again the best founders go to bat for their teams — even literally sacrificing their own comp — and no surprise, they rise to become standout leaders within the new, larger org.
I don’t think he’s ever told the story, but it’s worth telling. When we were selling @Behance to Adobe many years ago, @scottbelsky made a spreadsheet of every employee (32 of us at the time) and personally negotiated each persons title, salary and incentive structure, and made.
