The option is for eight or 10 years on top of the original deal. Depending on how Rodriguez fares in MVP voting — wins and finishes — it can range anywhere from $200-$350 million. If the Mariners pick up the option, Rodriguez’s guarantee in the deal is at least $320 million.

The thing that never gets noted with Dombrowski is he is very good at identifying what prospects to trade and who to keep and also he’s consistently been a convenient scapegoat for owners that wanted to consolidate to buy a European soccer feeder team.

The Mets do need to get better at player dev (and they are also fixing that by spending a ton) but the sixth best Dodgers pitching prospect would pretty clearly be the best one in the Mets system. Can’t fix that quickly. You can sign Carlos Correa quickly.
