This is why we can't have nice things... Shout out to @TempleUniv for their hard work to find placements and education for the STUDENTS of @UArts. Everyone involved should make the students a priority, not just worried about the trust fund. #DoBetter

The Hamilton Family Charitable Trust, which has contributed more than half of UArts endowment, is not in favor that money being included in the deal, multiple sources say.

@prlaorg @official_AACC @GPHCC @ChamberPHL @Think_IBA @AACCGP @RuePhilaCouncil @PhillyMayor @nextphlmayor @PhilaParking @PHLschools @PHLCouncil The bars and restaurants paid the tax even while struggling thru the pandemic. Worry less about parking & support businesses that actually support our economy.

@prlaorg @official_AACC @GPHCC @ChamberPHL @Think_IBA @AACCGP @RuePhilaCouncil @PhillyMayor @nextphlmayor One more thing. Did the @PhilaParking ever turn over all the taxes they collected on behalf of @PHLschools from bars/restaurants with the 10% liquor tax, @PHLCouncil ?

Let's keep this going and create an equitable and STREAMLINED process, similar to the outdoor dining pilot, which was a great success. @prlaorg @official_AACC @GPHCC @ChamberPHL @Think_IBA @AACCGP @RuePhilaCouncil

As someone who actually completed the process (over 18 months) (Shout-out to @JDEvansSolution), there is hope, now that the conversation is happening to fix things with Streeteries, most importantly to help Philly's small & diverse businesses.

Additionally, to obtain approval, you the business owner need to coordinate with more than just L&I and Streets. Health, OTIS, Commerce, Revenue, RCOs, your Councilperson, and many more depts are required. Have you ever tried to coordinate multiple city depts? It's not easy.

The PHL version, prior to passing, was stripped down, over engineered, and bogged down by paperwork and fees, by people who did not want outdoor dining to continue (unless you had $$$).

What is missing from the article is Pittsburgh's success is actually built by Philadelphia. @DombAllan and @SantamoorPHL drafted the original Streeteries bill here in PHL. PGH took that bill and passed it as is. PHL did not.

So, to recap, the @PhiladelphiaGov STREETERIES Pgm is still plauged by bureaucracy and while small & diverse businesses are still struggling, the only concerns of the city is parking revenue. https://t.co/LJtBEYeVad

The system for approving restaurant outdoor dining licenses is so plagued with hurdles, fees and red tape that it could be costing money to the city and businesses alike, the report found.

What is it about being a convicted criminal that allows you to jump in front of people who don't have such a tarnished ( and recent ) record? How about a FIRST chance?????

And before somebody comes at me with the second chances stuff. I'm all for second chances. HOWEVER, there are smart, talented, educated, hardworking, QUALIFIED citizens of the city who have applied for jobs and still hear nothing.
