The reason the media treated the murder of Jamal Khashoggi as totally out of character for the Saudi despots - when, in fact, it's what they've done for decades - was to imply Trump's support for that country was a unique evil, in contrast to decades of US support before that.
I hate to even *semi*-agree with Pompeo. (& ofc I'm not defending MBS or claiming Khashoggi deserved it etc.) But the press's endless fixation on 1 case after ignoring large-scale Saudi brutalities for years was rather shameless. Classic "Didn't matter till it happened to us"
