Mouton Rothschild unveils its 2018 label by artist Xu Bing. He uses 'square word calligraphy' which looks like Chinese script but is the Latin alphabet. Look closely and you see this reads 'Mouton' and 'Rothschild'.

The smoke hanging over the vineyards as we drove to St Emilion and Pomerol yesterday was insane. James captures it in Margaux here, so both banks impacted. More cold nights expected early next week.
It is times like these that you know you are a farmer/vine grower. Feel for everyone in France today fighting frost. These are candles burning to increase ambient temperature in vineyards

Very sad to hear that André Lurton has died aged 94. He was behind the creation of AOC Pessac Léognan, had 630ha of vines, was mayor of Grezillac, director of CIVB for 20 years... & father of seven.
