The consensus was the SDCF provision could play an important role as part of a wider response to drug harms. The main challenge for decision-makers concerned prioritisation and financial opportunity costs: lots of support, but limited budgets leading to tough decisions.

We found widespread support for SDCF provision, but also a range of views on staffing and service design. Peer delivery was strongly supported across the board. Lots of interesting views on prioritisation and integration with wider service provision – which was seen as vital.

We also collated routine data from across the city to identify hotspots based on a range of indicators (non-fatal overdose ambulance callouts; drug-related deaths; reported discarded needles, police activity etc.).

Coincidental timing, given the opening of The Thistle in Glasgow this week. This report summarises findings from a major needs assessment we carried out for City of Edinburgh in 2023.

Really enjoyed this conversation with @jamesmorris24 - it covers lots of my favourite topics: drinking and identity; the history of alcohol control movements; moral values and attitudes to alcohol among others. .

Interested in different ways reform positions articulate these concepts; how support for reform doesn’t always mean alignment on underpinning values; and implications for public and institutional responses to advocacy.

Is contemporary alcohol control advocacy ‘neo temperance’? Well, that might depend on what you mean by temperance… Some thoughts on historical parallels by me here. Thanks to @InstAlcStud for the invitation to write this post.

Great to be part of #DSN2024 discussions on how consumption, regulation + representation of alcohol intersect to shape cultural attitudes to alcohol. Historical, cultural + literary studies have a huge amount to add to debates on how we drink, and how we *think about* drinking.
