my novel, IDLEWILD, is officially out in the world today. it's gay, it's trans, it's about Manhattan private school and queer friendship and theater kids and slashfic and 9/11 and Livejournal, and I really think you'll love it. yes, YOU! you can buy it anywhere books are sold

I love that even an actual Jesuit priest agrees with my feeling that Josh Brolin’s evil priest character should have been more realistically priestlike
Verdict on #KnivesOutWakeUpDeadMan from a priest: Pretty good. Great murder mystery. Fun. Surprisingly effective portrayal of a compassionate priest by Josh O'Connor. At times, I wished he were playing a priest in a serious drama. Also some decent theological and even

Josh O'Connor is consistently one of the best things –– if not THE best thing –– in every movie I've seen him in. dude's got actual range: he can play a weasel-y loser as readily as pure charisma. the phone call in WAKE UP DEAD MAN is one of the acting showcases of the year.

I actually thought Wake Up Dead Man was the weakest of the three Knives Out movies, but I love the Knives Out series so much I'm thrilled that this one is getting such good reviews. I hope they keep making them forever

this is SO TRUE! after I left the movie, I realized that the priest character would come off as an insufferable goody-goody if any other actor played him. but Josh O'Connor brings so much mischief and dirtbag roughness to every role he plays. he elevates even good writing
WAKE UP DEAD MAN is Josh O'Connor's first lead role in a Big Movie and it's a genuine movie star performance. he's in almost every scene, is forced to play a huge range of emotion, and is utterly charismatic regardless of what he's asked to do. whatever "it" is, he's got it

I was bewildered at first but then I realized he must see hundreds of cis men who come in saying “help, I have a woman’s face” and his job is to see what they see. all men are equally pre-FMS in his eyes

halfway through my facial masculinization consult, the surgeon looked at my medical history and asked “why did you have a double mastectomy?” “For my sex change” He hesitated in confusion, said “So you were born female?” and wrote that down. Worst sales pitch ever

my boyfriend and I have reached the level of communication where we can go to our book club meeting and people choose to read Orlando next month and I smile pleasantly and say nothing, and then the second we leave the meeting my boyfriend says "I didn't know you hated Orlando"

ah, zounds 😬 i am ever-grateful for this news. Im denouncing him as a papist forthwith. Apologies I saw an historical work of his and praised it for its depiction of bravery in the heat of battle. was unaware of his penchant for wordplay, ribaldry, and mixing tragedy and comedy
