Thumbnailing is a quick and low-cost way to experiment and plan.
Storyboarding is time-consuming and high-cost labor.
Think and plan before you commit your time and labor.
You'll be glad you did.

, pulled on all kinds of sources to nail down that design, but Evangelion is definitely in the mix! Narratively Brendan and I had always planned for Clark to fight robots in the pilot, partly as a nod to Fleisher's Mechanical Monsters.
Robots from ep1 of 'my adventures with superman' seem to be a nod to 'Evangelion' designs. Can you please confirm this

as a college freshman i would buy these huge, cheap, canvas-bound, 8.5x11" hardcover sketchbooks and fill them with bad ballpoint drawings. the paper was low-quality, basically copy bond.
i yearn to fill one of those books with bad drawings...but now i cannot find one ANYWHERE.

"I can do it without thumbnails" is "using reference is cheating," but for storyboard artists. You absolutely can do it without thumbnails, and you might feel more impressive/accomplished for it, but you'll waste more time and you'll never know how much better your work could be.
