We’ve just finished the @WessexYeomanry inter-Sqn PT competition… cumulative miles competed in June. MiD (and thus a presentation) to Sgt Newman who achieved an outstanding 1300miles! Top performer in the entire Regt.

Went to Camp 1 (6300m). Plan was to just to 'touch' C1 for acclimatisation. 6 hours there & back - delayed slightly caught up with the Sherpa fixing team. Felt strong during the climb, descent was tiresome - you really have to pay attention to avoid slipping. Pretty pooped now!

Arrived in Tseram camp 3900m. Lovely walk up the river for about 3.5 hours. Followed the yaks with our kit. Good amount of snowfall last night, beautiful white covering this morning. Eating breakfast al fresco in shorts!

Started trekking - Yamphudin to Tortong. 8km as the crow flies, but further on foot and with 1500m of ascent. Warm and hazy day walking through rhododendron forests. Beautiful chorus of birds accompanying us along the way. Kit on the back of yaks.

Reached our 1st camp - Yamphudin 2050m. Very pleasant, surrounded by larch and bamboo forests, a chorus of birds. It's sunny but hazy, about 25°C.

We have arrived in Ilam. A wander around the tea plantations reminded me of doing the same on my honeymoon in Sri Lanka - very apt on our 10-year wedding anniversary!

#Project314 has begun! I will be attempting to climb the 3rd, 1st and 4th highest peaks one after the other in the next few weeks. First #Kanchenjunga, followed by #Everest70, and then #Lohtse. Excited to arrive in Kathmandu and met by one of the awesome team from @sst8848
