šŸ‘€ Scoop: IRS Direct File, the free government-backed program that let you file your taxes for free, is dead. IRS wrote to state tax agencies saying it would not be operational this coming tax season, per records I've obtained. IRS Direct File: 2023-2025.

Dean, thanks for this. Ron Hetrick, who mentioned this to us, was talking to me about getting BLS to put some of these explanations in layman’s terms and to blast that out publicly when revisions come out. He wasn’t trying to say that BLS was not transparent as is.

@ELaserDavies @jacobbogage @amacker Hey folks, good piece about McEntarfer's firing, but the line about the need for greater transparency is nonsense. BLS describes its methods in great detail for any researcher, reporter, or layperson who is interested

Some *very* fun @washingtonpost news: I’m moving to our White House economics beat! That’s covering taxes, spending, trade & more. I loved my time in Congress and covering the GOP push through the ā€œOne Big Beautiful Bill.ā€ Now I get to cover how it will shape the nation.

The new EVs have had problems. And they do look very silly. Selling them off would set USPS back a decade — it’d cost billions of dollars, and the current fleet of gas-guzzlers are frankly dangerous to drive. https://t.co/GfUvOtxSem

Defense contractor Oshkosh had only delivered 93 trucks by November — compared to 3,000 expected by now. The delays put Biden’s climate goals at risk.

šŸ‘€ Scoop: Trump & Republicans want USPS to sell off brand new EVs and chargers. That would mean literally **ripping up post office parking lots** to auction off assets with no private-sector value. It’s buried in the Senate’s ā€œOne Big Beautiful Bill.ā€ https://t.co/Qqv0E0sVv5

Weird twist. Kloos's attorney tells me: "The email seemed to say he was a high profile & close friend of the president. He's a staunch supporter of the president, but he's never met the president. He's certainly not a close friend of the president. Idk where that came from."

Update: The same Treasury official sent a **nearly identical** email to IRS asking to review audit of a group run by Kansas state Sen. Rick Kloos. So now two emails -- that we know of -- reflecting Treasury intervening in tax investigations of Trump's "high profile friends."
