Two application cycles later, I am overjoyed to finally share that I will be pursuing my PhD in Clinical Psychology at
@USC
with Dr.
@ChardeeGalan
in the DREAM lab! I am so excited and nervous about this new chapter but most of all I am grateful 1/4

I did not get the NSF GRFP but that’s not going to stop me from doing meaningful work and dedicating my career to underserved communities. A no from them just means a yes to other exciting opportunities for me. 🙌🏼 Congratulations to all those who received it! You deserve it!
Celebrating a big milestone today!!! I passed my second year project (master's) defense!!! Going to sit outside in the sun for a long while and be joyous 🌞
As a new PhD student, I want to be intentional/careful about what and how many things I say yes to. Any tips on this tricky balance especially when you’re starting out? 🧐
Bummer! I wasn't selected as a
@NASEMFordFellow
but I did receive really positive and encouraging reviews. So grateful for my letter writers and kind folks who shared their materials. Just want to do my part to normalize rejection! Now it's time to have fun at

Monumental loss today to the field of psychology with the passing of Dr. Stanley Sue. My own work, sense of belonging as an Asian American psych trainee, and ability to serve communities of color are all better off because of his lifelong advocacy towards inclusivity
4/4 finals done!!! 😮💨 With that, I can finally say my first semester as a PhD student is DONE. Big thanks to my amazing support system and mentors! ❤️💛
Materials from our preview day (including SOP green/red flags and statements from current USC psych PhD students) are now available!

As summer conferences are happening, a quick 🧵 on the importance of spreading inclusivity and supporting other attendees! A kind word goes a long way and unfortunately so does the opposite. 1/3
SO excited that this labor of love from the THRIVE lab is finally out! Check out our new paper on using CBPR to make relational savoring more accessible and acceptable for Latine families!

Today is my last day as a CRC
@NUFeinbergMed
. It has been the most special privilege to learn from

these past two years. The M-Body lab has taught me to be mindful and that my whole self is valuable in this field/work. Next step, grad school! 💜
Wow, seeing all of you wonderful people making moves and succeeding makes me so happy. When our shared goal is to improve the landscape of mental health, a win for you is a win for us all!

I don’t have anything insightful to add but I did want to mention how important and powerful it is for students to see a professor ask for help and be willing to learn, particularly when it’s for the benefit of your students!
Check out this amazing dim sum play set for toddlers that I found while exploring Chinatown! The cultural socialization potential...!! Calling all RES researchers 👀
That said, I’m still sad and disappointed and if you are too, I’m right there with you!! We often are so focused on having thick skin to rejection in academia that we don’t give ourselves space to feel the losses before it’s on to the next! 🫂

. So many old friends, former mentors, and Twitter to IRL pals! I'm reminded how joyful and energizing this work can be when you're also surrounded by kind and passionate people that are so generous in sharing their wisdom 🥰
So inspired by incredible scholars doing work centering community voices.
“Partnerships are not hard work, but heart work. Not more work, but the work. Not harder work, but smarter work to mobilize all available resources that will contribute to student success”

Sometimes I catch myself thinking I should wait until I’m a different version of myself to do things that give me joy but we are all deserving of delight just as we are
Had the loveliest conversation about my grad school application experiences for a podcast episode! 💬 Total dream experience and also just an all around gem of a host. Thanks for having me,

I'm Elayne (she/her)! I'm a third-year clinical psychology PhD student. I'm a big fan of hanging out with my cats, pottery, hiking, and boxing but my favorite hobby is to lie on the grass and watch the clouds! Random fact about myself is that I'm a classically trained singer 🎶
Had the best time recording this podcast episode about applying to clinical psych PhD programs! Thanks so much

Yes, apply! A lack of response to an email is not enough of a reason to take yourself out of the running before applying. Faculty get so busy and it’s nearly impossible to respond to every email. Some also have personal rules re: communicating with applicants to keep things fair.
@sasha_zabelski
Totally agree. One of the assignments for a grad class this semester was to write a blog post for Psychology Today or an equivalent outlet which I loved!
Happy to share our new post featured as an essential read on Psychology Today! 🎉 Quick and accessible read on using a mindfulness adjacent technique to maximize your day-to-day interpersonal connections.

I attended APA 2019 in person for the first time. On Day 1, I headed towards the convention center. Two older attendees behind me were trying to figure out if I was also going to APA. One laughed and said, “that’s not what a psychologist looks like!” 2/3
