"...why not get into our race and culture in the classroom? Why not try to know each other a little better?" Great story from a middle school math teacher that illustrates the connection between relationships & holding space for conversations about race.
NEW: We Don’t Need CRT to Say That Race Matters. #mschat #middleschool @AMLE @Larryferlazzo In Jay Wamsted’s Grade 8 math class he goes right for the conversation on race & culture when the chance arises. “Why not try to know each other a little better?” https://t.co/wfoe8MDg0i

We are big fans of read alouds and have seen them used effectively in so many #vted middle grade classrooms.
"While some may think read alouds should be reserved for students in the primary grades, there is research to support that students benefit from being read to daily in all K-12 grade levels." #WorldReadAloudDay The Hidden Power of Read Alouds: https://t.co/xhNIu3uyF8

"...the vision should support differentiated PD so that all staff are getting what they need to continue to move toward proficiency in each of the district’s key areas of instruction." Kudos to #vted districts w clear student-centered instructional visions grounded in equity!
"By focusing on pedagogical goals, rather than a particular tool or resource, districts set themselves up for longer-term success." Check out this blog from @BurroughsEDk12 with 3 important questions all leaders should be asking their team to find success.

Some good Qs from this article for Ts teaching real American history: "Can non-White voices, & specifically Black voices, be heard in my lesson? Are my students empowered by my lesson? Have I utilized the culture of my students to teach the lesson, so that they are empowered?"
Events like the #Jan6thInsurrection offer teachers an opportunity to bring in diverse voices and present a more comprehensive look at U.S. history. @RealRannMiller
