The CTU, where Johnson cut his teeth as an organizer, declined comment, even though president Stacy Davis Gates and VP Jackson Potter attended the Bears news conference. Potter and the union have previously spoken out against publicly financing stadiums.

So @stacydavisgates and @jacksonpCTU were at the Bears announcement today in support of the stadium plan. Let’s take a look back at their previous statements… 🤔 Now that their guy is in office it looks like they’ve suddenly become supporters of publicly-funded stadiums.…

Unbelievable. The Chicago Teachers Union appears to be lining up behind Mayor Brandon Johnson’s demand for a massive public subsidy for the Chicago Bears, while telling Springfield that Chicago Public Schools are underfunded.

Gov. Pritzker continues to say he's "highly skeptical," and Speaker Welch just said a vote on the new Bears proposal in Springfield right now would "fail, and it would fail miserably. There's no environment for something like this today."

@Austin__Berg The property taxes alone on a $2.75B stadium would be about $110M per year. 57.5% of property taxes go to schools. Because it’s publicly owned, the revenue will be $0. That’s $63.25M per year taken from schools and given to billionaires. Congrats on selling out @CTULocal1 .

. @chicagotribune editorial: With so much confusion (some perhaps deliberate) around the IL House's overwhelming vote on Chicago schools last week, bottom line was it was an extraordinary vote of no confidence in @ChicagosMayor
