The gas tax election promise indicated “the freeze would remain as long as inflation remains high”. Since then the cost of gas has dropped by 20% and Manitoba’s inflation rate has dropped to 1.8% (below the 2% target). What metrics will need to be met to reinstate it in 6 months?

A six month hiatus on Manitoba’s gas tax will cost the government the same amount of money as offering free public transit in Winnipeg, Brandon, Thompson, Selkirk and Flin Flon, for almost two years.
