…because we occasionally used formula. There needs to be much more support for new parents in establishing breastfeeding. I’m forever grateful to the midwives for helping me so much in those early days.

I found breastfeeding pretty hard to get started with. The midwives were incredible in helping me. I fed both children until they were over two but I remember being so upset when the health visitor ticked “not exclusively breastfed” in my baby’s red book.

I was v lucky to have both of my children in midwife led units. The first, I returned to even after being emergency transferred to hospital for delivery. Three days of midwife support - proper rest, incredible feeding support and was even shown how to bath the baby. Amazing.
Just saw that only 1% of babies are exclusively breastfed at 6 months. Just shows how difficult it can be and how women and babies need more support, not just wishy washy mental health yapping but lactation consultants coming to visit as part of standard pp care etc.
