"global community" even tried to "learn" our swag design — seriously, how lazy?. maybe take a look at how much effort POAP puts into their designs (they even double-check the Mandarin translations!) . too lazy 🙂.

9/9.Community isn’t your product. And we’re not your unpaid workforce. Rethink your approach—or stay home.

8/9.To the good actors: thank you for working with local teams, not over them. You’re rare and appreciated. To the rest: consider this a wake-up call.

7/9.If we had to choose again, I’d honestly say: don’t come. Let ETHTaipei be what it was meant to be. We don’t need that kind of extractive involvement. Our community and creativity aren’t that cheap.

6/9.It’s not just about fairness, either. It’s about respect. Respect for the creativity, the culture, and the grassroots spirit that actually make community events meaningful.

5/9.This isn’t just about one incident. It’s a broader pattern. And it needs to be said: if your model requires overworking and under-recognizing local contributors, your model is broken.

4/9.Yes, for-profit orgs might chip in financially. But the cost they bring—in confusion, stress, and long-term damage to trust—often far outweighs whatever money is on the table.

3/9.Just like Oskar said: local communities are often run by volunteers. They’re rare, valuable, and built on long-term dedication. When a profit-driven org swoops in to harvest the fruits of that work, it’s not just wrong—it’s demoralizing.

2/9.A lot of the actual grunt work ended up falling on the ETHTaipei organizing team. So here’s a serious question: if you’re not capable of organizing an event at this scale, shouldn’t you just scale down instead of exploiting the local community for profit?.

1/9 Oskar was being polite. In reality, this so-called “Global community” expected locals to find venues, handle insurance, introduce vendors (who later said “never again with this kind of client”), and even provide community member lists - so their signup numbers don’t look bad.

LOCAL COMMUNITY EFFORTS VS EXTRACTIVE BUSINESSES. Open source crypto communities relies on local community volunteers. They are the heart and soul of the community, and the foot soldiers that deals with all the unglamorous logistics that come with organizing events. Lately, I've.
