If being inconvenienced by participating as a member of a population is hardship then your child is not ready for actual hardship. Helicopter parenting inhibits a child's ability to develop self-confidence, and that is emotionally damaging.
Young children don’t need to be thrown into hardship for character building. They need to feel safe. What you’re calling strength-building is actually emotional damage.

My extremely popular opinion is that the cost of vet care is increasing at more than double the rate of inflation. Instead of putting pets down, we should put a stop to the private equity biz buying up vet practices and raising prices past what most pets owners can afford.
