Gosh! Haven't tweeted - sorry, X'd - in ages. And never about movies/celebs. But check this... #TheJoker (@JoaqPhoenix) looks so much like #CaptainSlow (@MrJamesMay). Could Captain Slow in fact be The Joker? Or, shocker, has The Joker had a quiet career in UK auto sport TV?! Uff

The German supreme court effectively wiped out €60 bln in climate funding by ruling in favor of an opposition claim that it was illegal to shift Covid loans to green finance projects - this puts to doubt all sorts of recently announced climate & energy support programmes...

Like many. I'm pretty fed up with X and am in the market for #BlueskyInviteCode - if you have one to share.

Power sector is critical for decarbonisation - very proud to have worked on this topical study
AFRY Management Consulting study on reform of #electricitymarket arrangements in #GreatBritain finds that a move to locational pricing in the UK electricity market would be high risk for little reward: https://t.co/JB6SHvnah8

This looks a lot llike one of those #ClimateTipping points scientists keep warning about. Average sea surface temperatures have been at seasonal record highs thru April/May/June/July 2023. All of the 30 warmest months on record have happened since 2010 - and 14 since 2020.

#UK govt resists strong wage growth, warning it fuels #inflation. Yet it does nothing to tame consumer squeezes as seen in the #insurance sector, where annual rates are being hiked by as much as 50% - way above inflation - even if you have a histroey of no claims. Hmph!

#Britain's watered down #climate policies under PM Sunak are seen in a deepening discount of UK vs EU CO2 prices, which were split after #Brexit - this is muddling cost calculations for future #energy projects, reportds the FT's @OilSheppard

This is also visible in German #employment, which is higher than it was pre-Covid and has recovered from the dip in late 2022. Here the charts. 3/3 ENDS.

In fact, the impact to industrial output from last year’s price shock and this year’s recession are nowhere near as big as what happened during the global financial crisis in 2008/09 and during Covid lockdowns in 2020/21. 2/3...

The many headlines of #German #deindustrialization aren’t backed by data, which show output has held up, albeit with choppy spells during last year’s #energy price shock, when companies sent employees on extended summer & Christmas leave to save costs. A short 1/3🧵

Sad. The world's oldest daily paper, #WienerZeitung printed its last edition today (1st was in 1703). In its life it covered 10 Austrian Emperors and 12 Presidents. Its only break was during Nazi times, when free press was banned: Auf Wiederschauen! https://t.co/U6ZLfAljik

#UK falling behind in yet another area. This comes a few days after similar words by the UK Climate Change Committee warning of "a lack of urgency" in the government's climate policies, which it described as "worryingly slow". https://t.co/Uxx9LfqjFz
Zac Goldsmith stands down as minister, accusing Prime Minister Rishi Sunak of being “simply uninterested” in the environment and of having created “a kind of paralysis” across Whitehall when it comes to tackling climate change 👀
