It was an honour to attend the UNCA Gala in New York on Friday to receive the medal & wonderful to meet so many interesting journalists from around the world. And it was a great excuse to explore New York at Christmas time - a real bucket list tick for a very big career moment ✅.

Big thanks also to Content Editor @owlglass who attended the awards with me (we missed you @CarolineSteel3) and without whom these programmes would not have been anywhere near as good!.

I’d like to give a massive thanks to the contributors we spoke to for the programmes, without whom there is no programme, no story and no hope. Their resilience and commitment to protecting coastlines in Puerto Rico and beyond is incredible.

The award is for reporting on the UN and its agencies and I’m especially thrilled it was awarded to programmes we made about my favourite subject (geography) 🗺️🌏🌊.

I’m excited to announce I have won the Gold medal of the Ricardo Ortega Memorial Prize at the #2024UNCAAwards, alongside presenter @CarolineSteel3, for the CrowdScience programmes on coastal erosion we made earlier this year 🥇 @UNCANews

It was so lovely to be back at Durham talking to students about being a radio and podcast producer. And great to learn what other alumni have gone on to do with their degrees too! A true testament to how varied and interdisciplinary a geography degree can be 🌎🗺️❤️.

It was amazing to travel round Puerto Rico - sobering to hear about the impacts of coastal erosion but encouraging to see how they are tackling coastal erosion as a community effort. It’s a beautiful island with amazing sunsets, incredibly friendly people and great food. (5/5)

And we visit @isercaribe to see how restoring coral reefs can help battle storm surges and coastal erosion. Including seeing some tiny coral in a land-based nursery! .(4/5)

And we get involved! @CarolineSteel3 helped with planting vegetation to stabilise sand dunes, which are a vital part of the defence against our encroaching seas. Thanks to Vida Marina at University of Puerto Rico for letting us join in! (Featuring a small cameo from me).(3/5)
