@SyntheticSpy @depaulsunny It uses cell tower coverage and WiFi which is fundamentally more reliable when there is signal than satellites. It does not cover remote areas in the same way but that is not typical use. 99 countries now, apparently For normal people a virtual SIM is a far better solution

@CitizenAmedia FAA actually developed the “virtual tower” concept in 2005, had New York company Sensis design it, successfully test it at FAA’s Atlantic City Tech Center in 2007, and then… did nothing. Saab bought Sensis in 2011 and commissioned the first remote tower in Sweden in 2015.
